A quick inquiry about the 2002 X Type central panel
I have a 2002 Jaguar X Type and it is dual screens, one for controlling the A/C and one for the stereo. To my knowledge, a separate edition of the same year and model came with a single screen that served both A/C and stereo (and probably Navigation?). I was wondering if it is possible for me to get that screen somewhere and install it in my car in place of the usual two screens. It would look nicer, be somewhat more convenience and looks like would be necessary since the LCD screen for the A/C has started to act shady and I think will burn out soon. It seems pretty possible but seeing how the A/C and the stereo would require to separate hook-ups in the back, I just don't know whether the single screen would have one or two hookups.
Basically I wanna go from :

Any thoughts on whether this is doable? Thanks all

I have the basic Classic model & only get 1 screen with just manual A/c . I have to be honest & I like it as there is less to go wrong . I also only have hand wind up rear windows , thats another plus for me .
However I wold like to replace my cassette player with a one shot C/D player , however that would mean finding a different lower facia panel .

jay, unfortunately, it is not a simple "unplug on, plug in the other and you are done" to make the modification that you are after. At a minimum you need to add in a few new sensors (ambient temp, solar temp, and in car temp) along with modifying the plugs on the back of the radio to a different pin configuration (your setup has 3 plugs, the one you are looking at has 2 plugs).
Can it be done, by all means. But, how much are you willing to spend to make this conversion?

Jay, if it means that much to you to get the nav touchscreen you might be better off selling your car and finding one with the nav screen already there. For what it's worth, when I was looking to buy my car one of the things I really wanted was the nav system, but when I found the car I wanted it didn't have it and I think it might have been a blessing in disguise because not only it there the chance of more complications if something goes wrong, the nav technology on there is kind of outdated. I think it's much more convenient to just use my smartphone when I need directions. Plus, if your LCD screen does go I would think it would be much easier and cheaper to find a replacement than to do a conversion to the factory touchscreen. Hope it works out for you.

I use my iPhone's GPS through the ACM. When the GPS lady speaks, the music's volume dips. It's so cool! And I've put a nice little iPhone holder thingy in the car so it looks cool too.
My radio is so old it even has a cassette! But it also has a six disk CD in the trunk.

There are several alternative solutions to this issue most expensive is first.
1. Retrofit Sat Nav and add audio connectivity module. (see stickies) at the top of the xtype thread list.
2. In car PC
3. Audio connectivity module and standard cd player.
4. Aftermarket stereo and smartphone.
For cash reasons I chose option 4, but I think it's the most practical.
Have a look at my post in this thread for details.
