Default Rear Seat Cushion Removal

Anyone know ho to remove the rear seat cushion?

JTIS states the following:

"Detach the rear seat cushion front retaining clips.
Slide the rear seat cushion out of the retaining hooks.
Remove the rear seat cushion."

How do you detach the retaining clips? I can't even get a good look at them.

Thanks,

Mark

You can't see the clips. You have to push the seat back towards the rear of the car (real hard). You will feel it release from the clip and then lift slightly up. Do one side at a time.

You definitely have to lift the front of the seat first. Sharply if you hope to unclip it! I couldn't get mine to release and ended up slicing the plastic through with a hacksaw blade. Brutal I know but occasionally....! New clips are cheap as chips at the dealer.

if you want to remove the back seat from an X-Type you will break the plastic clips that hold the base down. They are a consumable item, p/n C2S31685 you need two of them every time you remove the rear seat base.

There's no special way to remove it, just grab hold & yank it upwards. The clips will break and the seat cushion is free. You will find if you try to re-use the clips the seat cushion will not go in all the way and if someone sits on it it will go "click" the only way to fix that is to replace those clips..

The side bolsters use the same disposable clips at the lower part but if they break it does not matter since they are held in place by the seat cushion. The upper part of the side bolster has a lever operated release, you need to flip the lever in the white & black catch assembly towards the top to release it. They are re-usable ones there.

Default Been there done that...

I removed the seat cushion that is in my X-Type and you just have to push hard--backwards. I did not break any of the retaining clips. Also, if you have not yet replaced it, I recommend that you go to your neighborhood fabric store and purchase 2" foam seat padding and add that to the seat cushion. It helps with noise insulation and ride comfort! Plus, after time, the seat cushion will get wrinkled (just like my face) and the foam helps to lessen that worn-out look. Good luck!

sometimes you can get a flat head screwdriver between the clip and the seat ring and it pops out.

Good luck,

Default Remove rear cushion

Easy way to remove the cushion from the clips is to use a flat pry bar, slit it in between the seat base and the cushion next to the clip and pry it up, no effort needed, but I can not push back and lift to get the cushion out, I even lean my back to the back of front seat and used my foot to do it but it still not budged, I can't see the clips nor the hooks to figure out the way to unhook it. Any one have better idea?
