Default Rear split boot lid (Estate)

Have had my 06 X Type estate a couple of weeks now and am loving it, however a niggle is that the split boot lid will not work !! I believe on the Estate you can open the top half (Glass section) and leave the bottom section closed. The little button below the wiper arm is free but the lid will not open. I am currently working in the Middle East and wont see my Jag again for another 10 weeks however would love to be able to go home and rectify the fault as she is otherwise perfect
Any ideas ? Is there maybe a fuse or something I have overlooked ?

Likely to be related to the remote door locking function in some way.
Dealers don't see many of these. I'm having trouble with mine - it unlatches when the engine is started. No fix yet but fingers are pointing to either the locks or the security module.

Yes! The electrical switch operated by the release button at the base of the upper glass had failed internally.

Replaced "Handle" Part # C2S51478

Fine since.

My 2005 X-type estate has just started doing this as well. The upper glass rear door open from time to time and I cannot figure out was is causing it. How do you replace the electrical switch and where did you find one? Thanks

Wagon parts are not common. Same for documentation. Part number is in my previous post. Local dealer had to special order the item and I let them handle the install on this one.

What I can say is - if your shop suggests a "reprogram" of the car first, suggest they check the switch with an ohm meter first instead. You'll save some expense. When the switch fails, it becomes "stuck" in the position that releases the glass. The result will appear to be intermittent because of the way that interacts with the overall door locking and alarm setup.

I thought it might be a mechanical failure - so cable clipped it shut and it remained closed but the warning light came on and the overhead light came when a door is open. So it is an electrical problem. Not sure if it is the switch or somewhere else?

My 05 X-type has just started doing this as well. I thought I was going mad at first - thinking I'd somehow accidentally opened the boot !

It would be really useful to know how to change this part / how easy it is ! Any views on this anyone ?

Follow the thread - wedgewa makes a lot of sense.
My fault happens more often than not. It seems to happen not when I start the ignition but when I am just moving off and the car seems to check all the doors etc. Maybe its possessed!
