Default Removing and Replacing Wheel Badges

OK. Wheel badges - Part 2.

What's the best way to remove the wheel badge? Alloy wheels are pretty soft, so I'm afraid to get too aggressive with a screwdriver, etc.

Looks like the new ones just pop in once you get the old ones out, right??

Thanks...

Safest way I found was to take off the wheel and push them out from behind. Jack

Really is pretty easy. You just pop them off like you said. If you are afraid for scratching teh wheel put some tape on it and juts easily pry them off. Very easy if you are careful.

Eek. Don't pry them. You have three options.

Best practice: Remove wheel and pop from the back
Second best: Use suction or good adhesive (3M molding tape works well) and pull from the front
Third best: Buy a 90 degree pick tool (like a dentist uses) and poke into the plastic edges while avoiding wheel paint, pull straight out and work your way around the edge.

All three of these methods will produce no visible damage to the wheel or cap, a screwdriver will. Be good to your wheels and they will be good to you

I've also removed them with a swiss army knife. No damage to the badge & wheel. Just be careful popping it out.

It's incredibly easy to pop them out without damaging the wheel. Just tape a mini screwdriver. You'll be surprised how easily they come out.

Or use the methos I used. Take youre car to a hand car wash. Let the guy go at your wheels with a presure washer and then later after you leave realize just how easy the center badges come out and go on the internet to find new ones!!!!!

Yep, car wash or long drive, easiest way to remove the center caps. For me at least...or leave the car overnight in the street...

I discovered by accident that one of the prongs on one of my center caps is broken. The cap was loose and I popped it off to see that the prong was barely hanging on. I had just left Discount Tire after having the tires rotated so I suspect they broke it. I decided to try to superglue the prong/clip back down and now, about two years later, it is still holding after several more tire rotations and a new set of tires.

Moral of the story is take care not to bend the clips when you pop it out but if ones breaks try superglue before you buy a new one.

If you need to glue these broken center cap tabs (it is a common problem), the best glue to use is the stuff made for sealing ABS drain pipe joints. About $5 per can at Home Depot and cures in about an hour.

I used a carving fork and a hammer to pop them out. Place the carving fork around black edge, gently use the hammer to give a couple of good hits and the one side should pop out - giving you enough room to grab it and pull it right now. Hope this helps!!

Mine are chewed up when I replace them. Drive a screw into the old cap and just pop it out.

They are 'supposed to' rotate in the opening...theoretically ending up with the jug being right side up when you stop.

The hell with that. Put a single wrap of PVC tape around the prongs before you mount them and you'll never lose another one!

In my neck of the woods, if you leave your car on the street at night, you would probably lose the wheels, driver's side glass, and battery also. Our radios look too difficult to remove, and the market for them around me, would only be the guy you stole it from.......Be cool...Mike

I've looked at these on ebay; as the centre badges of my alloys appear somewhat worn, and detract from the overall condition and look of the car.

However, I only seem to be able to find them with a maximum diameter of 58mm. Measuring my current centres, they are nearer 65mm. As far as I am aware (having inherited every piece of paperwork since Day 1 of it's life - even receipts for bulbs!) these are the original alloys.

The model is a 2002 2.1.

Any ideas of where I can get caps that will fit? I CBA ordering/returning them as it just wastes everyone's time.

Many thanks, in advance, for any help guys.

Baz, do you have a picture of your wheels, then people can tell you if they are genuine Jaguar ones. The 58/59mm ebay ones fit my Jaguar wheels.
