Removing Rust Question
So everyone knows that little key lock on the driver door? mine happens to have rust and i want to get that crap off. Im not sure if i could try mother chrome polish or possible some diet cola and aluminum foil which i was recently told about my exhaust tips LOL
mask off the area around the lock with tape to protect the paint.
Use some chrome or aluminum polish and some fine steel wool. Start lightly and wipe off with a microfiber towel as you go so you can see your progress and not over-do it.

The first think you want to do is just as The Chris X mentioned - protect the door paint with tape.
You might try using NEVER DULL for metal polishing (we use this to polish everything in the military). This stuff works miracles but it will attack paint in a heartbeat if not properly protected.
I see you've mentioned some other polishing methods for the exhaust - I use this stuff on the tips as well and they went from black and spot rust to show room spotless. Just rub it around for a bit (it is chemically soaked fiber material) then dry/buff with a clean rag.
