Default Shudder and shut down - 2004 3.0ltr

Our 2004 3.0ltr X-type now has 71k miles and two years ago had the Throttle Body replaced by the dealer under warranty.

Things have been fine for the last 18 months, but then we started to get the very occasional shudder and shut down that cleared upon re-start. Of late these have worsened and I have the following selection of DTC’s:

P1573- Throttle angle error
P0121- TP Sensor range / performance
C1445- Speed Vehicle Signal Short Circuit
U2509- Torque reduction cannot be fulfilled by ems

Doing work on the forum with search has led to some solid information including a short in the TPS harness, water infiltration from the top of the passengers window screen scuttle causing shorts and poor connection at the TPS. At this juncture I have followed these leads, but nothing was found and the condition continues to occur with increasing frequency.

This one is looking right at me, but I cannot see it - Any suggestions?

Well, this post was an absolute bloody dud Here is an update incase it helps someone else – Working a little closer with the TB and the car plugged into AutoEnginuity, I noticed the butterfly was returning to 9%. Wide open was 100%. I carefully cleaned the TB and found that after, I was seeing 2.75% when closed.

Since then the issue has not re-surfaced and the primary driver, my wife reports that it runs better. This would be plausible answer for P1573 & P0121 - Not sure how this was causing the C1445 & U2509.

This forum is typical Jag no instructions on how to post none of the links take you to an option. I have a Jag x-type 2004 I have been fighting check engine lite and limp mode. First check new throttle body, second ox sensors, now limp mode again cant go more that 20 miles. Checked codes again C1445 Speed Vehicle Signal does anyone know what to change to get past this can not take it to dealer due to cost.

7 year old thread.

Do a search for your problems and codes. Nearly everything that can happen has happened and been discussed. If at that point you need clarity, ask an informed question.

There is a TSB that refers to "shuddering" and advises a reset of the ECM. I think that just means unhooking the battery, waiting a minute and then hooking it back up. There is a long complicated process described for reprogramming the ecm,but then I also understand you can just drive the car around for a half hour to reprogram it.

Hello The problem with my car is C1445 Speed Vehicle circuit failure. I was wondering if possibly l left some connector not made. I am going to check very thoroughly to night when I get home. Problem is that with this failure I can drive about 30 to 40 miles then limp mode starts. Funny thing is that when I turned around heading home made it all the way home. I have put new throttle body, and all 4 sensors and still car is not reliable. I am hopping that this is the last fix then good car. My patience is growing very slim.

It would be most helpful if we knew what year model and engine you are working on. You can use the USER CP and add that information ot your signature then it will always be there.
Depending on the year of your vehicle the vehicle speed is determined by a sensor on the transmission or it is determined by the left rear wheel sensor.
First check for any fluid leaks around the transmission. The cable connectors are known to leak and the connection becomes contaminated. Next remove each wheel speed sensor and through the opening while rotating the wheel spray liberally with WD-40 then blow it out with air.
If that doesn't solve the problem and there are no fluid leaks, the next step would be to remove the TCM and clean the contacts and apply dielectric grease before plugging back in. The TCM's are known to get wet due to there location.

Hello Thanks for a detailed reply the car is a X-Type 04 3.0 v6. Out of desperation I took it to the dealer to tell me what is wrong. Not sure what I am going to get for $160 but when I get the car back I am going to do what you suggested. Could I ask you I don't understand removing the wheels and wheel sensors and spraying with WD40 what will that do? Could you explain that little more please.

The wheel sensor is located on the backside of the wheel/axle assembly. It is mounted with a single bolt. They sensor face gets dirty and doesn't give a correct signal. The hole where it mounts gives you access to the reluctor that the sensor is reading for wheel speed. It also gets dirty and rusty and will cause signal errors.

Up date on 04 Jag X-type The dealer said that the C1445 issue is a leaking intake manifold I am not saying that it doesn't have a leaking or bad gasket but how does that relate to the speed vehicle signal circuit failure Am I on the right track? I am planning to remove the intake this weekend but still feel I need to check the connections. Can I ask the best way to clean the connections?

It doesn't. Was that a Jaguar dealer that told you that? If so, you need another dealer. If there was an issue with the intake gaskets there would be a code and it would be Pxxxx, for powertrain, not a "C" code for chassis.

The only other thing I can think of is they found some other code(s) and those related to the intake gaskets, but again, those would be P codes. Did they give you code numbers they found? If so, post them here and also search for them in this forum and someone would be able to help you. You might have more than one issue. The best advice I could give you is address that wheel speed sensor code you have first and go from there.

Do you have your own code reader? How have you been checking the codes? If you do, clear any codes you do have and then see what comes back so you know those are current issues.

Default Engine miss when hard accelerating

Hi Everyone,

o4 X-Type 3 liter 6cyl. I was wondering if my fuel pump might be weak I looked on the fuel rail and there is not a shadier valve how does one check fuel pressure on a Jag of my type? Been having a miss when accelerating hard.

If the fuel filter is old, I’d replace it first. Relatively cheap & easy. It’s on the front, right side of the fuel tank, under the car, near the right rear tire.
