so the engine light came back AGAIN! And a couple other questions
Soo.. for about 3 weeks the check engine light has been gone but the other day it came back!
I got the p0171 and p0174. The codes mean: System Too Lean(Bank 1) and System Too Lean(Bank 2)
When the light was on, the car would sporadically enter safe mode and cut the fuel at 3000 rpms.. but then re-enter normal mode after a little time passes.
I reset the check engine light and its been alright again..
Would that be the air control valves, O-rings, and gaskets for the valves?
And what would be the formal name I would give the dealer or autozone to find the part? Autozone doesnt understand air control valves...
Today something weird happened also. I was driving, parked my car, turned it off, ran into a store, came back out started my car and started driving...
NONE OF MY GAUGES WERE WORKING!!!!!!
I went to go get some gas about a minute later, filled the tank, started the car, and everything was back to normal!
wtf mates.

RE: so the engine light came back AGAIN! And a couple other questions
First problem is probably a vacuum leak. Best bet is to "smoke" test the intake. I thought mine was just the PCV hose but ended up with three leaks, the IMT o-rings, brake boost hose and the PCV hose all had leaks of some sort. If all are the original, probably should look at replacing all three. The PCV hose tends to split along the bottom, brake boost has a check valve that breaks down and the o-rings are quite common.
I don't have a guess about the gauges except an intermittent electrical problem.

well I found out what the light should be from...
I heard a hissing noise coming from one of those valves and I was suspect.
So I grabbed some throttle body cleaner and sprayed it...
the car went "guurgle guurgle" so there is definitely a leak there..
probably the o ring in that valve thing

Might be worth checking this out too:-
Had this on mine the other week (limp home mode lean banks 1 and 2 sometimes OK mostly not) turned out to be a 3" split under one of the hoses.Dealer reclons common fault and cost £5 for new pipe (much sturdier than old one)

IMT = Intake Manifold Tuning, I believe. Both are located on the left side of the intake as you are looking at it from the front of the car (passenger side in North America). There are o-rings in each of the upper and lower.

if you have yellow orings theyre original andtoo small and leak easily, the upgraded new ones are green. anytime you have a lean codes on an Xtype youre better off replacing IMT orings, brake booster vacuum line and PCV hose.. all 3 are problem ares

those are exactly the culprits..
and yes... they are both yellow!!!
Thats called the IMTs?
I tried calling the dealer but they wanted to give me a breather something..
and a crankcase hose..
lol..
the pcv hose on mine seems to be fine..
but where is the brake booster vacuum line at?

Breather hose/crankcase hoseis the PCV hose. If it isn't "ribbed" it's probably the original. If it's original, it's probablycracked or split on the UNDERSIDE. Pull it andhave a look.
Brake boost hose runs from the back of the intake over to thebrakebooster. Has a buldge in the middle where the check valve is. If the check valve is white it is probably original and is decayed. If you (or anyone else I guess)needa brake boost hose, I have one. Brand new. Still in package.

My dealer called thoseIntake Aircontrol Valves (upper/Lower)..at least that's what they wrote on my service invoice.
Part Numbers:
Seals C2S40669 (2 each)
Gaskets C2S14519 (6 each)
Gasket XR819852 (1 each)
Maybe Someone can explain why all the gaskets....But whatever they did, it fixed mine for the same reasons above.

i was like wtf??
lol.. should be fine..
but thanks guys!
everything I replaced was still the originals so its a good thing I got the other stuff anyways.
