My 2007 X-Type (which I have very recently) makes a slight/faint noise, coming from behind the dash somewhere between the steering wheel and the center console.
Sounds like a fan gone bad. But even when I turn off everything on the touchscreen, the sound keeps coming. Any ideas? Thx!

 

HI Kingnero.
It is a small fan, something to do with the A/C I believe, in the small air intake on the lower part of the dash. It continues to run for up to 20 minutes after the ignition has been turned off.
If you pull the front of the intake off, you can give the fan a small blast of compressed air that will blow any accumulated dust and dirt out.
This usually cures the "noise" problem.
