Default Speaker issue

Yesterday I was driving and my front two speakers went out, completely out of the blue. A little while they came back, and worked fine the rest of the day/night. Today I got in my car and they arent working again... any feedback?

Nothing meaningful that I can help with; my 2007 Sportwagon left side sound went out a few months ago and I haven't had the time to get fixed. I'm hoping I can just buy a set of new 4 speakers (not from the dealer) to replace all the main door-mounted speakers and that it's not a blown channel in the headunit. I thought Alpine was a decent brand for audio, but I'm wondering about that. My son's 2003 Marauder has factory sound system and 8 years into it they still kick out clear, powerful sound all the way around.

Not the speakers then.

Yours is a 2002 model, and I'm assuming you don't have premium sound.

Either a plug has become loose, you've got a break in the harness (but it's unlikely since only the front stage is out), or hopefully not, something's gone amiss in the head unit...

Check the plugs at the back of the head unit, and there's another plug down at the bottom of the left-hand A pillar, behind the plastic trim, 2nd plug from the bottom in the group, it's blue in colour.

If you do have premium sound then it could also be a bad connection at the amp somehow.

'02 Model: The door handles in the back doors have tweeters in them, and there's a big plastic housing under the parcel shelf which contains a sub and an amp.

Yep, first remove the plastic trim that runs along the door jam, then you can remove the plastic trim by the hood release. Give them a good tug, they'll come out.

The speaker connections are in the blue coloured plug, 2nd up from the bottom, try unplugging then replugging it, might be a loose contact there.

Also check the plugs in the back of the head unit.

If you definitely have tweeters in the rear door handles (same as the front doors) then you've got premium sound.

The 02/03 models with base-model sound had no tweeters in the door handles at all. Later base-models post 2004.25 had tweeters in the front, but not the back. Tweeters in the back are the giveaway for premium sound.

Also check the connectors at the amp.

Wiring diagrams for the 2002 sound system is here http://jaguar.bttlxe.com/xtype/Elect...ec%20Guide.pdf

Be careful when you pull off the trim around the hood release. There is a securing tab above the hood release handle but the trim strip itself is thin right around the hood release handle. The trim piece can break at that thin part when attempting to pop the tabs out.

Go ahead, ask me how I know... =|-\

On our 2003 the rear speakers weren't working. When we pulled of the door panels the magnet had come completly off of the cones. Even preventing one of the windows from rolling down. The speaker design looked pretty weak compared to the replacement speakers we installed

Sean, the head unit is what you would call the radio in the dash. The amp for the entire system is built into the radio. So, no replacing only an amp. You have to replace the whole radio (aka, head unit).
