Did you try turning it back on afterwards? What happens to the rpms before and after shutting down the climate control?

i got the dreaded call
she broke down

Her mechanic friend told her the rear transaxle was broke...CV joints?
What kind of repair cost am i talking about?

I guess it wasnt the alternator afterall. must be coincidence that the noise died down when she turned off the heater.(She said the noise was back this morning)

If its the 2 outer CV joints they are £148 each fitted in the UK at a Jag specialist charging £35/hr.
Possibly less I would expect overin the USlike just about everything elseautomotive.[&:]

Then again it could be something else.

If the noise is back and it changes when a/c is turned on/off then I would suspect bad compressor. The rear halfshafts are just coincidental and would make a different noise.
