Default standard head unit with new subwoofer

hey i wanted to know if the head unit that comes standard in the car has outputs for a sub. the name of the output escapes me, but you use rca cables or speaker wire to connect the unit to the amp.

i eventually want to install a new head but for now i want to install a set of subs i have laying around.

thanks for any help.

oh i also read there are door clips that have to be replaced if you take the door off to change the speakers. what are these clips called so i can buy them before i take the door panels off.

No, it does not have outputs for subs. You need to wire in a fm modulator. The door clips, I don't think, have any specific name. Just go to the dealership and ask for door panel clips, they are probably a dollar a piece. But you should be able to remove the panel without breaking the clips, just be gentle.

Faze is correct, no RCA output or dedicated sub line.

I would go with speaker line input/output to a sub/amp combo rather than some type of modulator.

I used the fm modulator on my 02 X and my subs work great. Plus it isn't that expensive. Go to the install bay at your best buy and ask for one.

The door panel clips should be located near the edge of the panel, just pry it out with your fingers a little bit and feel for them. On most cars there are three or four on each side of the panel.
For the inside plastic sills, just pry up and unsnap, it shouldn't be too difficult. The one for the rear door was more difficult, I couldn't get the entire sill up so I just shimmied the cables through the open part. And to get the power cable to the battery, there should be a thick rubber grommet that you can cut a little hole into and the aggressively squeeze the power cable through.

There's a great write up in the FAQ's for door panel removal. I currently replaced all door speakers, added a sub and 2 amps - all running off 1 low level converter. Was a pain to get 5 channels out of 2 but it sounds great. I plan on replacing the head unit this year with something fierce.
