Sugestion Which Should I buy..00-03
Well Im planing on buyingaX Type in about 2 weeks but so far on the market in my price range I have found 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 3.0/2.5 (both) Jaguar X Type. With mileage from 90,000 Kilometers to 140,000 kilometers about 50,000 to 80,000 miles..
I am just wondering which year you guys would rec. plus the 3.0 or 2.5 L. I tried doing alot of research but couldnt find much other then alot of people having trouble with the 2001/2002 model with their transmission going out etc...I think it was a Japanese or Chinese Tranny on some of the models which didnt work with the car properly.
Also considering which is the most powerful year...please if you could give reasons supporting your choice with the model and year would help mealot..
Also if I can ask Im a student if anyone can tell me how much I would have to spend on a monthly basis to keep a Jag maintained...not talking about gas, just like abt how much would you guys spend on your Jag to keep it in working condition like oil etc...
(I do understand that each car has its own problems but, I really need some advice...)
Thanks everyone soo much...[8D]

3.0 liter engine for sure... about the same gas mileage but more power.
I didn't think they made x-types in 2000 or 2001 by the way... but get the latest model with the least mileage you can.
i have a 2002 3.0 sport with a manual transmission so im unsure about the auto tranny problems...

I'm getting 24 miles to the gallon in my 03 with automatic. I think thats pretty good asI am also on my second gas tank since I owned the car so we'll see. Funny thing thecomputer said it was 22 but my calculations were 24. I push the car every once in a while and had the ac on from time to time at a moderate temp.

I have had a 03 and now a 05, here is the deal. The 02-03 models had a very big issue. They had bad drain holes in the rocker panels. So if you live in a cold climate area the car is prone to rust… and rust bad! On the x-type the front of the car is lower than the back, so when the salty water gets in the rocker panels and it drains the water sits in the front of the car and cannot drain. Also the 02-03 has a weak tranny, popped air vents, and other lil stuff like that. I would suggest the latest year you can afford. As far as miles…. If you can get a warranty on the car that would be a plus. So maybe 50k or so. The 3.0 is the only way to go. I have had the 2.5 and 3.0 and the 3.0 is a much much better motor. It does not use that much gas.. almost the same as far as mpg’s go. I would also get the auto tranny. As far as I see it, if you want a stick buy a sports car.

ok, the air vents seem to pop up.. they only to fix them is to super glue them down. i have heard the 02-03 had more tranny issues then the later years. the rust issue is... well.. a rust issue. like most first and second year cars the 02-03 just had some bugs, buy 04 they fixed most of them.

Christo, you are buying a Jag, yes, parts are going to be a bit more. Granted, if you know what parts are common to every engine and which are Jag specific, you can save some money that way. For example, an oil change requires 6 quarts of oil and a filter. Personally, I am running synthetic in my car (not required, standard 5W30 oil is fine, different story there, check the forums for this). So, the oil change ran me about $28 for the materials and I changed it myself. As for mileage, I am pulling 26 on the highway (70ish) and 18ish in town. I have the 3.0L motor. It has lots of low end grunt due to the variable valve timing. So, no need to get on the gas really hard normally. As for other work on the car, due to the lack of space, it will cost you a bit more. But, this is true of most front wheel drive cars. Just exaggerated with this car due to the inclusion of the transfer case. I am paying $350 a month on a 4 year contract for my Jag. I paid $13.5K out the door. It is an 03 3.0L with all the options other than the sport package and had 80K miles on the ODO.
