Default synthetic oil

Is anyone running it? Any gotchas involved and which brands?

i used to use a synthetic blend, until about 3 months ago when i got an oil change. now i use pure synthetic oil which is supposed to be easier on the engine and last longer than a conventional oil change. Brand wise i think you could use any. i would say mobil 1 oil is pretty good.

Sidewalk, just to warn you, you are going to get all sorts of arguments both for and against the use of synthetic oil. If you feel it is worth it, go for it. I used to use synthetic oil but have since switched back to dyno oil. I saw no change in how the motor ran and my mileage was the same. So, I don't see the need for the added expense. But, when I did run full synthetic, I used Mobil 1.

Not to say that Jaguar is correct or not, but depending on the paper that you read, they actually recommend not using it. They have flip flopped back and forth on this subject, so, again, use it if you think the price justifies the end.

Not to get into the mix, just make sure to use a good quality oil filter and an oil that meets or exceeds Jaguar spec.Change oil and filter between 3000-5000 miles.I go with Mobil one in the XKR but I run Castrol 20-50w in the V12 XJS.

I use Castrol synthetic and change every 5000 miles on all our cars. Never had any engine troubles with this routine.

I highly recommend taking the arguments over to Bobistheoilguy.com as that's a whole message board of Pepsi vs. Coke on the synthetic oil debate. You'll be sure to find 10x the arguments either way than you would here.

Not to mention the 'tastes great' vs 'less filling' debate.
