i used to use a synthetic blend, until about 3 months ago when i got an oil change. now i use pure synthetic oil which is supposed to be easier on the engine and last longer than a conventional oil change. Brand wise i think you could use any. i would say mobil 1 oil is pretty good.

Sidewalk, just to warn you, you are going to get all sorts of arguments both for and against the use of synthetic oil. If you feel it is worth it, go for it. I used to use synthetic oil but have since switched back to dyno oil. I saw no change in how the motor ran and my mileage was the same. So, I don't see the need for the added expense. But, when I did run full synthetic, I used Mobil 1.
Not to say that Jaguar is correct or not, but depending on the paper that you read, they actually recommend not using it. They have flip flopped back and forth on this subject, so, again, use it if you think the price justifies the end.

i dont use it ..to me oil is oil we dont drive our cars like race cars ..so it does not break down as bad ....i use the one whats on sale, regular oil...i have a mazda rx7 turbo what i beat to death 389hp 411 fpt with 235000 miles on it, i change the oil every 5000 ...but this is my own opinion..you may do what you like ...i just buy the cheapest oil ..as long as you change it

Not to get into the mix,just make sure to use a good quality oil filter and an oil that meets or exceeds Jaguar spec.Change oil and filter between 3000-5000 miles.I go with Mobil one in the XKR but I run Castrol 20-50w in the V12 XJS.

Synthetic Vs Dino
Synthetics are the future of oil. They are not petroleum based and resist performance robbing sludge, as well as cleaning and protecting your engine, better gas mileage and cleaner emissions. Synthetics typically have longer chage intervals, some to 25,000mi/1yr saving time and money, but as with some manufacturer warranties/specs and customer preference there are 3000-5000 mi change interval oils that meet the API standards and have competetive pricing to dino oils. For this application I recommend the Amsoil(OE)Series and would also suggest a quality filtration system. You will notice with the synthetics that you have more power, cooler running temps, and longer lasting viscosity levels. Of course follow manufacturer recommendations for your vehicle and it is a customer preference, but why not switch to synthetic to extend the life of your engine and enjoy your vehicle performing as it was truly designed.
