Default Trunk Latch

Hello All,

My trunk (boot) latch has been acting weird. It does not latch on occasion.

My fix is to hit the open button on the trunk lid when it is open, then it will close.

Does not matter if I use the key fob or manually open the trunk, it randomly occurs.

Is this a British electrical issue? - Note one battery terminal has white powder on it. I disconnected, cleaned, and reattached- perhaps battery issue? Kitty has Jaguar battery.

2002, x-type, 3.0, 143,000 km, Automatic, Canadian.

Thanks for any reply.

I have the exact same problem as you. I usually avoid using my trunk now because I'm afraid that opening and closing it is going to make it worse and that eventually it won't close!

I find that hitting the trunk button before closing always works -- so far, just wondering if it is something else.

Thanks for yur reply

Since you say actuating the latch before closing it usually works, it sounds like the latch just needs to be cleaned and lubed - may not be fully releasing the latch when you open it. Start with a penetrant, open and close repeatedly a dozen times or so, then squirt some lube (I like WD-40) in the latch, especially between the moving parts.

Well I sprayed the trunk latch with WD-40.

Will let you know with the outcome. Looks positive so far.
