Default Valve covers leak, tune up time!

I need to reseal the valve covers as they are leaking. I need to change the spark plugs and serpentine belt. All are original, car has ~69,000 miles (2003 X-Type, 2.5)
So I need:

* Serpentine belt
* Upper intake manifold gaskests
* Lower intake manifold gaskets
* Valve cover gaskets, left and right
* Spark plugs

Anything else?
Anybody have part numbers?

Dealer wanted ~$2000.00 plus so I'll just go ahead and do the job.

Thanks in advance, Chris

Follow this link to the SNG Barratt website.
https://www.sngbarratt.com/us/#!/English/Downloads
You will be able to download the electronic copy of the X-Type parts catalog with all of the part numbers.
While you are in there it would also be a good time to make sure the PCV hose is the updated serrated type and not smooth. If it is the smooth one change it while you have it off. The brake booster line is mounted into the rear of the intake manifold. You will need to press the outer plastic ring against the manifold and then pull gently to remove it. The plastic ring is a lock/release. When I had my intake manifold off I reused the throttle body gasket only because I forgot to order one in advance. I would recommend having the new gasket on hand. Take your time and you will be very successful.
Cheers
Vern

I'd go ahead an replace the upper intake manifold gaskets and also get the throttle body gasket and IMT gaskets (easier to replace with the manifold off). None of which are strictly necessary but they're super cheap at places like Rock Auto and cheap insurance to not have to do the job again or worry about those parts down the line. Lower intake definitely sound more optional and seems like some people replace them and some don't, they're less failure prone than the uppers and don't have to come off to get to the valve covers, so up to you if you want to do them as a 'while you're in there' job. Get the double platinum spark plugs so they last another 100k, and it's a good time to swap the PCV valve and air filter if they're of unknown age too. Getting the manifold off seems a little intimidating at first but they're are some good guides on here and if you ever have to do it again it will hardly take any time.

Didn't say it did. It has 70,000 miles and is starting to crack thus I will replace it.

I'm not a fan of reusing old gaskets so I always replace them.

Thanks though.

Car now has 70,350 miles and I can smell oil when I drive it. Keep putting it off as I don't drive the car that much.
I also need new tires, I'm believe I will buy Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+.

Just checked my parts list from when I did the job and you should be all set. I'd consider the lower intake manifold optional. I ordered from rockauto which was quite cheap. Good luck with the job, there's quite a bit to take off but nothing too challenging and it's well documented in online write ups.

If you're smelling oil it's very often the valve covers, but the oil pan gasket can also leak on the exhaust, or if you've changed the oil recently there's likely some on the exhaust from the filter that takes a good few miles to burn off - if you happen to be under the car take a look around and any oil on the exhaust should be fairly obvious.

I will check the oil pan gasket. It is about due for an oil change as well.

What the heck is the IMT gasket?

Haha I actually don't know what it stands for, but they're the valves that switch between the two intake runner lengths. The o-rings are prone to eventually go bad and cause a vacuum leak that can be hard to diagnose. You can replace them with the intake on the car, but it's easier with it off so may as well do it unless you know they've been replaced before. You'll see the two big valves on the end of the intake manifold opposite the throttle body. I got fel-pro brand o-rings ES73020 for about $6 for both.

Intake Manifold Tuning =

Intake Manifold Tuning Valve. ... The manifold uses a centrally mounted tuning valve to equalize pressure in the side-by-side inlet plenums. The valve is electronically operated by the computer control module.
