Default Where to find codes for diagnostic/ engineering mode

Curious. Is there someplace I can find what all those codes mean, when you activate the diagnostic/ engineering mode? The only one I can decipher is the battery voltage.

If you want a definite summary of all the codes then I suggest installing JTIS which can be found as a sticky in the x type forum. Once started go to "3. Powertrain" > "Electronic Engine Controls" > "Diagnosis and Testing" > "Electronic Engine Controls".

This gives you all the codes you could encounter and rectification actions.

foxbottom, I have a listing of all the meanings of the codes when you put the instrument cluster into diagnostic mode and how to take the values that it gives you and convert them to useful numbers. PM me your e-mail address and I will send you the word document. You will also get some other useful information that is part of that file too that you might find of interest.

Frankly it's not wise to figure out the codes as they are likely/always many years out of date. E.g. my car has the same feature and the codes have not changed in the 7 years I've had it.

Just get a code reader like an elm327 and use it for codes - and then watch the fuel trims.

JagV8, where the instrument cluster is far better than any code reader out there is that once you get into the Engineering Test Mode, you can see what the sender is giving to the computer as an input. The code reader will only give you the final output. With the input values, you can determine if you have a sender issue, no tools are needed to figure that out.

Yes, I will agree that looking at the error codes that are pulled from the instrument cluster will send you on a wild goose chase pretty much every time. that is when the code reader is the way to go.

I have an elm-327 that I use for the current codes, fuel trims, etc. I was just messing around with the diagnostic mode thing yesterday, and am curious as to what all those codes meant. Thanks Thermo -I will PM you for that document.

Thermo - I agree about the (fuel) sender (and other things) but remember the thread is about codes. They want ignoring in the IC and instead current ones read.
