Hello everyone, I've had my X-type for almost 5 years now & I've decided to lower my car. I chose to go w/ H&r's due to the fact that it was the most affordable route. I'm pleased with the results. Not too high or too low. The only gripe I have is that it seems that the rear is lower than the front. Anybody have any clues to why this is? Or is this normal for H&r's? I was thinking it could be the factory shocks as I did not change them out when I switched out springs.

From the second pic, when concentrating on the wheels in relation to the wheel arches, the rear does appear lower.

However, the horizontal rubbing strips along the front and rear doors appear parallel to the ground.

Whether this is due to perception or confirmed by actual measurements, it still looks neat.

funkdoctor, a member on here had the same problem that you had and they just cut off a half a coil in the front to even it out.

 

Mine sits exactly the same as yours right now and it bugs they heck out of me.. still waiting for pictures on this thread of the car with half a coil cut out...

The ride is surprisingly still comfortable. You can feel that its a little stiffer but its not harsh at all.

Is there any pictures the x-type? & is there any pictures how much exactly he cut? I'm considering doing this but I wanna see some reference pics to see how much to actually cut.

Here is my X on H&Rs. I think it looks pretty level, if not a touch higher in the rear.

 

Looks really good Patterson. I see you have the sport version X-type. I wonder if that's why yours sits nice and level?

 

Hey FunkDoktor, thanks. Are you, a DJ? Anyway, it might be that mine is a Sport. When I installed the H&Rs I also left the original shocks and struts in place. Here's something that shouldn't matter, but I don't carry the spare tire or the jack etc in my trunk. I figure all that gear is about 70lbs that I don't have in my trunk.

 

I've got H&R lowering springs on my X-Type & it doesn't sit lower at the rear.

The ones in mine actually lowered the rear of the car further than the front from the factory heights, but it came out right in the end.

If you have red springs, they could be a race spring and have different specs. Mine were black and the car sat too low in the back also (it is a Sport model). I think the stock sport springs in rear with H&R front would solve the issue or a coil/half-coil cut off the front. The last choice would be to see if the H&R X-Type wagon rear springs are available and try those in a sedan. (I'd cut a coil or much as you can without the spring seating funny in the perch.)

I have the red springs currently installed on my non sport x-type & my rear sits a little lower. Since the springs are progressive, what end should be cut? The end where the springs are close together or spaced out? Thanks.

 

Ideally the dead coils should be cut. It depends on whether they taper in on top or bottom. Main thing is that they still seat correctly once everything is put back together.

 

What do you mean by tapered?
