Welcome !
That's a not true what they said ! [:-]...Well, from late XJ40s Jaguarmajorly sorted out some reliability probs still nothins is meant to be perfect .What I can say earlier X Types with the auto tranny is prone to some problems while manuals are ok as I know . So, if you get a '04 and up that should give you no headache

As far as X-types go, I know the '02-'04 models have had problems. I have an '06 auto and its great, no problems at all. So I agree, you should get an '05 or after ... Besides, Jaguar has great service, especially in the NY area.

04+ X-type and go home happy. The 03 and under is the one that has slightly more problems, but the 03 is no where near as bad as the 02.

I have a 02...if your worried chances are the only way to keep you from worrying no matter what year you get is to get one with the jag warranty...we'll tell you to get a 05 or newer and you'll be the only one with multiple problems...my 02 has some minor quirks but that is expected on a new vehicle being released. The most important part is to get one with the 3.0 don't waste your time with the 2.5 liter as gas mileage doesn't increase enough to notice and when you have auto vs. auto the 3.0 is much quicker. Second don't get sucked into one car...take your time and wait for the car you wanted all along to fall in your lap. Search online and get the best deal possible...many times the best deal has been within a couple hour drive of me so keep that in mind....if you'll travel a little that can help you out!

Cheeers Biggie, mines an 02[&:]!!!.........lol
He's right though, generally 01 and 02 had quite a few problems associated with them ( I know I'm gonna regret sayin this but mines been great............very few problems to speak of )
04+ will get you a great car with most of the bugs fixed out.
Go get it n enjoy
