X-Type Engine Remove/Install

X-Type Engine Remove/Install
I just recently purchased a 2005 2.0 X-Type.
There's a knock on the engine, so a Jaguar tech advised me to replace the complete engine.
Are there any special tools I need?
Is it easier on the floor or hoist?
Please Advise...this is certainly sink or swim.
Regards

Having access to a hoist/lift is always preferable to using jack stands and working on the floor, but the work can be performed either way.
You may also want to perform a search of this forum for any threads pertaining to the removal and refitting of the engine/gearbox.

I just replaced my 2.0D 217k engine for a 88k lump. It is refusing to fire and the computer says no dtcs I have it booked in for a re-program yet wondered if there are any cheats to get the ecu to recognise the lump. Somebody from the drivers club said try starting within 15secs of operating the key yet that did not seem to work. It is turning over and I have primed up the fuel filter and lines....I checked there is fuel coming through. Its not booked in for another 5 days so if I can by pass this immobiliser as you can when purchasing a new key (if you have another working key) I would love to save a few bob!! It has the same ecu etc yet the injectors came with the replacement engine. kind regards n growly noises Leapercolony.

Thanks Paul, I thought the same yet could not be sure. Are you an engineer/mechanic? It occurred to me that there might be another cut out in the ecu. Somebody else told me the ecu is not recognising the engine. My own understanding is that there is no identifying chipping in the lump, only the injectors. Also that identifier in the injectors is critical only to fine tuning and will not cause the engine not to start.Ultimately it will not fire and is free of dtcs. I am stumped.

The injection pump is not coded, and the injectors do not have to be coded to the ecu for the engine to run.
The ecu coding of the injectors sets the base figure for injector quantity, so the ecu has leeway to adapt the injection quantity greater or lesser, within a defined window range.
You need to look at some live data whilst the engine is cranking, such as fuel pressure being a minimum of 200 bar or more, the ecu will inhibit injection if pressure is less.
Also you need to look at cam and crank sensor signals, has the crank sensor been damaged, misplaced during the swap ?
Paul.
