Default The x type is gone already

Hello all, Well everyone 2 weeks ago the transmission in the 2003 X Type that I had bought went out. And the bill to fix it would of been $ 4,000 USD. Lucky for me I bought the car at a dealer. And here in California cars sold by dealers have to come with a 90 day warranty on the engine, transmission and water pump. So, I called them and after taking a week to decide they decided that instead of fixing the X for me that they would take it back and give me another car in its place. The plan being to then fix the X Type and resell it at a higher price to recoup that money spent fixing it. So, they gave me a 2005 S Type as my replacement car! AWESOME! A car that is 2 years newer and worth more for the same price as I paid for the X Type. Win! Win! The only down side is that I had spend 1,200 USD on stuff on the X Type that I didnt get back. Like tires etc. I want to thank all of you for helping me with my X Type while I had it. And I hope to still you all of you around!

sounds like you came out ahead. How do you like the S Type compared to the X?

Mark,

Good to see you come out on top after such a major mechanical issue.

I've just seen your pic of the S-Type and it looks great.

That sounds like a deal, so all CA regs aren't crazy after all!

Kind of intrigued by your quote, Mark. I have to say I looked at both 3 and 4 litre Ss as well as X-Types when I went shopping for a Jag to replace my CTS. The 4 litres had more zip, to be sure, but about the only advantage I could find in the S-Types was a bigger interior, particularly in the back seat (and I rarely drive from there), and an XJ8 is that much bigger again. Faulting the X there is a bit like complaining that your dachsund is not tall enough. The AWD made the X-Type a no-brainer for me, as I have taken it out the odd time in the snow, and the added traction is wonderful, even with all-season shoes. The X is every bit as taut as my CTS (and that's saying something!) and more nimble than the S. Nothing to choose between them on noise levels; a bit more wood in the S, but then you never did qualify "better".

Too bad you had such a bad experience with the X - not what a lot of us have found. You missed out on a very rewarding little car.

Robert, I really liked my X Type. And I was really sad to see it go. If the transmission had not gone out I would still have it. And be very happy. But I just could not afford to fix that.
