New member - help with fuel filler cap cable
Hi
New member here and looking for some advice.
One of the minor issues with my car (X type estate 2.0D SE 2009) is that the fuel filler cap doesn't lock and it feels very much as if the cable has snapped.
I have seen a S/H one advertised which states 'for saloon' - does anyone know if there is a difference between the saloon and the estate - the fuel filler cap looks to be in the same place, so I'd be surprised if they were different - remember this is a UK RHD model.
Also, are there any good spares outlets for parts such as this - something tells me this would me a lot of money through a dealer - does anyone happen to know the cost of a new cable?
Thanks

Here's a (hopefully!) relevant quote from Jaguar's Technical Guide, issued 2005 on the intro of the Estate version:
Filler Flap, Hinge and Bowl (Estate)
The fuel filler flap and hinge is unique to support the body
side surface design of the estate. The bowl is a carry-over
sedan design, except for the addition of two pins. Although
the release system (cables, handles and clips) are carry over
items, the cable routing is changed slightly, near the filler flap,

Thanks guys
I have now actually phoned a dealer and been quoted £56.57 for the cable and £118.50 to fit it.
I am pretty sure it's the cable which has gone. The little sqaure pin which locks the flap (contained within part 5 in the above diagram) is retracted and when you pull the release handle it just lifts with no resistance.
I guess I need to do a bit of poking around and remove the old one before I will know for certian.
I can get a S/H cable for around £20, so it's got to be worth having a go at it.

Between the [£56.57 + £118.50] and the £20 alternatives, I'd definitely be giving the £20 one a go first!
Looks like the cable will withdraw upwards through the Fuel Filler Bowl (item 2) once released at the bottom. Might need to have a string or wire attached to the end of it to pull the replacement back through.
Please let us know how you get on.

Before you spend cash, I would suggest you positively identify the problem first. I say this because a snapped cable in this situation would be rather unusual! It's hardly the most heavily loaded system on the car!! Of course it could be a fitting at either end that's come loose and that may or may not be repairable - your call on that. Otherwise it could be as simple as the outer tube, in which the cable runs, coming out of its locating slot in the operating lever bracket. To get at that you have to remove the plastic sill trim so you can lift the carpet. The sill trim is 'just' plugged in - lever it up with a broad bladed lever along its length, though it may not surrender easily!!
If you do have to remove the cable, it comes out at the tank filler end by rotating the fitting with the square pin clockwise. I haven't the details for the estate, but for the saloon, the cable is secured at numerous points along its length requiring both trim and wiring looms to be moved to get at it!
