Default X-type loss of drive.

Greetings, at 20 mph I went to change up and there was no drive at all. The manual gear lever waggled about as if I was stirring porridge.
There was no noise or any manifestation of a problem. I just went to move gear lever into 3rd gear and it was missing.. all other gears gorn too.
The car is a 2004 2litre Diesel 5 speed manual gear car. Has been outstanding up to now.
(New tyres and front discs and pads fitted only last week!)
Any suggestions please
Thanks DaveP.

Ok, first thought is shift linkage/cable out of alignment. To check this, disconnect, then using a screw driver or some such see if you can manually cycle through gears.
Secondly, the clutch slave cylinder is low/out of fluid or gave up the ghost.
Third, the clutch died.
