Default X-Type Sport Collection front piece

Im sure sure this is an question that is asked constantly, and I know that I could get a fiberglass one, but is there any other way of getting an oem front lip without going directly to Jaguar and at a resonable price. I mangled mine over the winter and Im looking for a replacement. I had a fiberglass kit on my old car and I want to avoid the nightmare.

wza, look on e-bay. You can sometimes find them there. Worst case, check out a local junk yard and they should be able to locate one for you. They should be part of a national network where you can give them the info on your car and they will be able to see where a close bumper cover is and what it will run. Worst case, look up a place called "Walt and Verns". They are based out of Buckley, WA. They will ship a bumper cover to you. Can not say that they will be the cheapest, but they will take care of you. I have used them and was very pleased with their service.

wza, if you are after an OEM part, any junkyard will be able to find that part and tell you how much through their network. If you are talking about the piece that goes on under the bumper cover, that is completely aftermarket. Jaguar will not have anything to do with that unless they also carry the Mina line for example. So, that will vary dealership by dealership. So, this pushes you back to either e-bay or going directly through a supplier of said part. Finding a used one locally is going to be a needle in a haystack search.

So the 2005 Sport lip is actually one piece with the rest of the bumper? I want an ABS one, too.

It's definately 2 seperate pieces. I did contact a local dealership and they wanted $500+ without paint. A little steep for such a small piece I would say. I was hoping our friends on the other side of the pond could help, bc it seems as if the Sport Collection kit came on most of them.

Call Chris at Mina - maybe he can source one cheaper. If he can get a better deal on 2, I'm in.

Are we talking about the front apron like this;

Jeremy, you've already got that on your car haven't you? but without the side-skirts & rear valance? So it's just the front apron?

I'm thinking of doing the same, especially with the price from Mina for the single part. Everyone else wants to sell a complete kit only.

Jaguar X-Type Sport Bodykit for Jaguar X-Type

Were the OEM ones from Jag fibreglass or ABS? And the Mina ones?

Apparently the OEM ones are urethane and prone to tearing. Chris was going to get back with me on a price, but the OEM one (because it is urethane) needs some metal brace pieces, so it sounds expensive and not necessarily much better than fiberglass. I may just keep mine now add some flex additive into the paint to help with chipping.

Received a response from Chris at Mina said for the OEM from him would be around $575 shipped and expressed that the best idea would be to order locally. The original on mine ripped right off in the center as I hit one of those trucked tires laying in the middle of the highway.

My car is at stock height and doesn't sit nearly as low as my old car so maybe the fiberglass isn't a terrible idea after all.

I hit a big dead racoon at about 40mph while my car was about 3 inches off the ground (current drive height) and the fiberglass one only suffered a small and repairable crack, but the entire car caught air going over it. As much as I like the idea of the urethane for scrapes and chip resistance, the fiberglass one has been decent given the abuse I throw at it.

Years ago back in Oz, I hit a chunk of concrete that fell off the back of a dump truck at about 80kmh in my 5.6L TE50

The concrete smashed the front crossmember, bent the mounting bracket for the anti-roll bar, and left a noticeable dent in the floor pan under the drivers seat. Took a 2" square chip of paint out of the bumper at the point of impact, but no cracks, no deeper damage to the bumper itself, which was made of fibreglass.

So I have no issue with fibreglass bumpers!
