Hi all, i have a 06-X-type 2.2D
currently i have 18" Aruba wheels but these are a nightmere due to splitting the rims,
can anyone tell me will the 16" or 17" Alloys fit my car?
also what is a CF1 Xtype
was thinking about changing the wheels so i can have bigger tyres fitted.

Steve, yes, you can use 16 or 17" rims. But, you can not go smaller than 16's. If you need more info like tire sizes and whatnot, let me know and I will get you that information.

What do you mean, "splitting the rims?"

Because I'm looking for the 18" Aruba wheels and have a Pristine set of Jaguar 16" wheels I'd trade for them. But, not if the Arubas are problematic.

i live down a very bumpy road and travel over 100 miles per day.
the first time i went down to fast and hit a pot hole and split the alloy
i had the wheel welded and a new tyer fitted but its happened again
so i was looking to change my wheels for a set with bigger tyres not low profile
the wheels are not problematic just the roads i drive are full of bloody pot holes

I love the look of the Arubas. But my 16s are very comfy. Toss up.

 

Dont get me wrong mate i wouldnt be looking if i didnt do the miles
the wheels do look nice
i'm just getting fed up with the pot holes becasue of the number of Miles i drive.

 

I'm not a big fan of low profile tyres & big wheels . The Standard fit 16" alloys are great comfortable ride & a little bit faster away from lights .

i'll be buying a set of 16" the weekend
and the 18" can go on ebay to get the money back

Not trying to steal the thread or anything. I recently sold my 2007 X-Type and was going to post all the extra parts that I had accumulated in the Spring but noticed this thread.

I have a set of brand new Arubas that I will be listing. I also have a new set of lock nuts as well as the new lug nuts to go along with them for when I decided to change them.

I have the same rims, 18" and one cracked and yes, it is a nightmare looking for the size and the style to match. However someone mentioned you can place a 17 or 16 on the hub, if a 17" would fit, does it affect the feel of the ride. btw this is on the driver's side rear.

Shem, just for clarification, please do not mix 17 and 18" rims together. With the AWD system of these cars (since you are in the US, I know you have AWD), if you get a tire that is a different size than the rest, you are putting undo stress on the transfer case and this can cause it to fail. if you are close, then normally not too bad, but this is where having 4 same size tires on the car is critical. Now, you change all 4 rims to the 17's, then all is good. As for affecting the ride, you are going to get a more "squishy" feel to the ride. Is it going to be dramatic, not really. But, you will notice that the car will ride a little smoother with the same tire pressure in the tires. The reason for this is that the smaller rim will have more sidewall to maintain the overall tire diameter. This added sidewall allows the tire to flex more and absorb the bumps before you start hitting the firm part of the sidewall to prevent damage to the rim.

NYCJAG2006, I found that you can go as wide as 235's on the X-Type before starting to run into rubbing issues. So, running 235/45R17's is about as big as you will be able to go. Depending on the backspacing/offset of the rims, even this might be an issue. But, if you have a similar offset as to what the factory rims have, then you should be good. I ran 235/45R17's on my X-Type and had very minor rubbing on the plastic fender liner. You could see where it would occassionally rub against the tire very lightly. Enough to remove the dirt, but that is about it.
