X Type (X400)
Hi guys, I've just done a stupid thing
I tried to clean my engine with a painting brush and wiping with a cloth. I've only washed the passenger side and removed the battery, I stopped cause it was getting dark already.
Now my jaguar is showing a gear box fault with 300rpm and shifting is extremely hard. The speedometer moves only to 40km/h.
It's been two days now still trying to find what I might have flooded with water or something😰
Can't anyone please help ?
Thanks Collin in South Africa

Hi Collin,
Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us.
As you have learned the hard way, water should not be used to clean a modern engine due to all of the electrical connectors and sensitive electrical and electronic components. My suggestion would be to disconnect the battery again, then disconnect all of the electrical connectors in the area you washed, flush them with a zero-residue electronic contact cleaner spray (CRC is the brand I use). Allow the connectors to dry before you reconnect them.
It sounds as though your powertrain is in Limp Mode, which limits engine rpm and locks the transmission into just one forward gear (typically 3rd or 5th). I assume the Check Engine Light is illuminated? There should be diagnostic trouble codes stored that can be read with an OBDII scan tool. The codes will probably tell you which system is triggering Limp Mode.
Hopefully some of our X-Type experts will reply.
Cheers,
Don
