Default Yet another problem: now pinhole leak in coolant tank

Oh gosh.

This car won't let me catch a break!

Just had away bar links, bushings and front rotors replaced.

Control arms on their way

Water pump pulley also on its way

Starter about to go.

This morning I opened the hood and i got **ahem*** golden showered **ahem** by a steady stream of coolant coming from the plastic reservoir...I JB WELDED it for now.

Any advise on what kind of reservoir to get. I see some cheap ones on ebay, but I don't want to get something of crappy quality...

Ahhh Yes mine needs new sway bar end links and rotors/brakes too (Sitting on my desk in-fact!) But They are great cars!

I personally just replaced my coolant tank with a $50 Ebay one. I was impressed to find it look to be exactly the same as the stock one as well as it had metal fittings inside the smaller nipples unlike the stock tank. Came with a new cap too! I have had mine on for about 2000 miles now and no signs of an issue have occurred and that's with weather -20 to 80 Fahrenheit. I have read that a few others have used the same one on here as well. Here is a link to the one I bought for my car Jaguar x Type Coolant Reservoir Expansion Tank Free Shipping | eBay

Now I don't know if this is a common issue or if I'm the first but my tank was actually fine (I just replaced it knowing the common issue of the tanks having issues) but the main hose that connects from the tank to the water pump and the one heater hose making a "T" is where mine had started leaking. It was a $14 hose on rock auto. So as long as your in there with the coolant out you may want to replace that as well for some added security!

Hope this helps!

-Carl

I have repaired a few coolant tanks, using torch and plastic bottles (1 gallon water).
Keep in mind that plastic will bond only if both parts are heated. It always looks ugly after repair. JBWeld will NOT work!
It is probably better to get new one because it is under pressure.
Washer bottles are Ok to repair that way and coolant bottles which are not pressurized.

@carl-thanks for your reply. Great cars indeed. Just very high maintenance.

The t hose went about 2 months ago and was replaced, so it's relatively new. Thanks for the ebay link. I was just wondering about the aftermarket tanks because it would make no sense to buy an aftermarket for 50 that will only last a few months instead of a OEM for a little over 100

@car5car: I used the quick steel as a temporary measure until I get the new tank-it still drips lightly, but has slowed down the leak considerably .

I feel your pain, my Jag seemed to have a never-ending list of things that needed fixing, but hang in there, once it's all fixed you'll be quite happy with the end result!

Thanks everyone for your replies.

Found a vendor locally in Houston who sells the aftermarket tanks. Should be in by tomorrow, I hope. Quick Steel/JB weld has somewhat held up for the day.

Also, 60 dollars is not bad at all for the tank, considering this is a DIY repair, it insignificant . I was assuming this was another 500.00++ repair.

On to the starter :-/

I should have known this would not be as easy as fitting the new tank in.

This hose is leaking:

And this hose is leaking:

Both right at the nipple. The second hose is new.

I am assuming that I need new clamps? Has anyone used regular autozone clamps?

Thanks!

Yes I have. A regular hose clamp is much better. I changed most of mine

Thanks for he reply.

The regular clamps worked well. No leaks anymore.
I just feared over tightening them.
