Welcome to the forum Dennis, i've moved your post from the General Tech section to the XE section.

When you get a moment stop by our new members area New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum

My understanding is that the 2.0L engines are the same, it's only the ECU tune that is different to increase the power from 200PS to 240PS.

Very little, I suspect. It is possible to vary engine powers quite dramatically by tweaking the fuel injection software and altering the turbo charger settings. Of course the higher power engine will use more fuel and hence cost more to run, especially in the UK with our barmy emissions-based taxation that only considers CO2 and ignore all NO and particulate emissions. This is especially stupid as the CO2 emissions of company cars are used to derive the personal tax paid by the recipient of the car, the cost of the car is irrelevant.

Yes, the engine is the same as far as I am aware. I drove the 2.0T (dealer speak is "twenty T" and "twenty-five T" and am waiting to drive the 2.5T which is supposed to be quite a bit zippier. The 2.0T is comparable to a Volvo s60 T5, but without the torque steer. Great for normal driving, with decent acceleration from say 40kph to 100kph.

It is the same engine as is used in the evoque (in that tune) but the 2.0T in the Jag is a much better drive than it was in the evoque, at least when I test drove one about 5 years ago.

Not to disagree with Fraser but supposedly the fuel use is the same for both tunes though whether that happens in real life is another thing.

He said "ECU tune."

ECU is the acronym for Electronic Control Unit, which is the engine's computer brain. It controls dozens of parameters of the engine's function including air-fuel mixture, turbo boost, and a number of other variables that affect how much HP and torque any given engine makes. Identical engines are often tuned differently for various reasons. For example, more power generally means less fuel economy depending upon how one drives, so a tune is designed for different applications. A more conservative tune might also provide an engine a longer life expectancy.

Identical engines can make substantially different amounts of power given how the ECU is programmed, and the XE 2.0T engines are identical except for the computer programming.

Likewise, in the F-Type, the 340 HP and 380 HP V6 engines are identical except for the ECU programming. The same is true of the 495 HP V8S and the 550 HP V8R engines offered in the F-Type.
