Post Top left of touch screen, strange white window with scrolling text

Hi, I am new to the forum. So hello to everyone. I have a late 2016 Jaguar XE 2.0L automatic diesel with 65,000 miles on the clock.

Just recently a long narrow window with a white background and scrolling red text appeared in the top left corner of the touch screen.
The text is continually being updated with: CPU usage, Memory usage and Available memory. I am not sure if this information is from the car CPU or the entertainment centre. Possibly the GPS system.

I don't know why this has suddenly appeared and cannot think of anything I did to cause it to appear. I have a ANCEL LD700 OBD2 hand scanner, which includes additional Jaguar service modules.
Both the OBD2 and Jaguar vehicle scans show no error codes. I have tried removing/replacing the GPS map SD card. Disconnecting the battery, twice. Once for 15 minutes and the second time for 35 minutes, but the message window is still there.

The car is running great. It is just that I find the message window annoying, especially as it partially obstructs the heated seats, phone and other icons which reside in this area of the screen.

My question is, has anyone experienced this problem and if so how did you solve it. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Here is the screenshot you requested. I have purposely made it large so you can read the text which appears in the white window.
The text is displaying the CPU load and Memory information. And is updated in real time.
Once the ignition is switched ON. The window is permanent and displays in all screen options.

That's an interesting defect, have not seen it on a car through the shop in my time with JLR. Does the car have anything aftermarket in the infotainment system, such as a bluetooth/carplay add-on? I would assume you have a corruption in the infotainment module or screen if not. The screen is just a "dumb" display on this vehicle, not it's own module, so it should just be displaying the information it's getting from the IMC. That is not part of the normal engineering screens or any data we can access with SDD usually.

Hi, I do not have any Bluetooth devices connected or even my phone linked to the car.
The only changes I made shortly before the message appeared was to change the car battery as the previous one was 6 years old and showing its age.
I updated the UK map on the SD card, by downloading the Jaguar app to my PC and carried out a map update.
I also gave the screen and surrounding area a good clean and thought I might have inadvertently pressed a combination of the surrounding screen keys which produced the message screen.

There is no normal function that should display that box, that i'm aware of. I would assume, other than trying the hard reset and such, you have a corrupted file on something. Probably the infotainment module. Short of swapping in a known good screen there's not much else you can do for testing, as a used IMC may or may not work without being programmed to the car.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. What do you mean by a hard reset?
I disconnected the battery for over 20 minutes; I though that was a hard reset or am I wrong.

I appreciate this is a cheeky request. but are you in a position to refer the problem to specialist technician assistance at Jaguar or their support centre where the experts reside.

I would have thought they must have knowledge of and access to an answer to the problem.

Yes hard reset as in pulling the battery, to clear any diagnostics mode the module may be stuck in.

I will reach out to some coworkers and see what I can find. I do technical support in the US market but the cars are largely the same. I'll see what I can come up with.

Can you supply your VIN so I can look further into the specs on the car?

In the meantime, if you hold your finger to the left of the clock for more than 10 seconds, it should give you an engineering mode screen. I would explore there a bit to see if there's anything that might turn that data on or off.

Hi, the VIN number for my car is: SAJAB4AN1HCP04039
It is a 2L Diesel XE Prestige D Auto. Registered 11 November 2016
I will try your engineering screen suggestion and see what it provides.
Thanks for your help.

2017 MY, NLI system, so the audio head unit is right in the dash behind the radio.

Does the box stay there on every screen, or only on the Nav screen?

Could try pulling fuse 5A (15 Amp) in the rear junction box, right side of trunk. This will remove power from the audio head unit, but not the screen. If the box is still displayed, it's coming from the screen itself. If not it's coming from the audio unit. If it's the latter, i'd suggest trying to live with it, as replacement would be neither cheap nor simple. The screen can be swapped from another car for testing if that's the case, but the AHU has to be programmed via SDD to the vehicle.

Actually on further looking, the screen gets power from the AHU, so that's not going to help... you could supply power to the screen on it's own, but you'd have to remove the plug and rig something up to test it.

The small window is permanently visible, irrespective of which screen is selected to display.
I am wondering if I visited the local Jaguar Distributor and requested a software update or reinstall to the infotainment unit would cure the problem

Talking with one of the LTS guys, they don't like the 'reinstall' of the software on those older AHU systems, as they can fail often after forcing the reload of the software, so do so at your own risk.

Thanks for the feedback.
I have tried holding a finger to the left of the on screen clock for over 10 seconds, but nothing happened.
t looks like the screen area next to the clock display is not an active part of the screen.

I think that only applies to the newer IMC systems, not your AHU based one. Short of swapping parts out before attempting a programming, I don't have much other diag advice I can give you. Afraid any real messing with it may render parts faulty and require replacement.

Hi RoverJoe, thanks for you time and help with this issue.
I think we have gone as far as we can. I now need to make a decision as to whether it is worthwhile taking the car to a Jaguar/Landrover dealer to sort the problem.
Cheers.
