Default Front bumper problem.

2016 XF prestige

The little square box under the head light will not push back into the bumper. I pulled it out to see what it was. I don’t know. It connected to a line that goes into the bumper. After I get off work I will go to dealership to see if they can figure it out.

does anyone know what it is for? It looks ugly with it sticking out of the bumper.

Probably the insert point for the tow hook. There should be a tow hook in with your jack and spare that you screw into the bumper mount behind that square opening.
I haven't removed mine, hope never to have to.

After work I pushed it in. It went back in place with ease. A little water squirted out when I pushed it in though. I was freaking out for a second.

thanks.

You sure you didn't try to pry open your front headlight washers? The cars are equipped with headlight washers that automatically kick in after a certain amount of uses. I've never seen mine activated in person but a family member saw them after I sat pulling the wash lever a few times to make sure they worked.

Here is a post showing a picture of where they are and how they activate

That’s exactly what is was. It was out this morning, so I extended it all the way out and it wouldn’t push back in. Lol It was the coldest the car has seen. (18 degrees). I wondered why it was sticking out for the first time since I had the car (4 months).
