Default Sunroof - not designed by Germans

Now 4 months into my XF-S and still loving it.
My earlier post pointed out some shortcomings at the 2-month mark, but here's a new one...

Sunroof. Seriously??? When retracted fully it looks so cheaply designed, I'm almost embarrassed to have it open. The Germans must be laughing at this one. If they had any sense of humour.

Is it the headliner? I do not see that issue with mine with the suede headliner. I do not especially care for the way the wind deflector looks but again, it came with the sunroof as part of the car, and the Germans charge a bunch extra for it. We had 4 BMW's and the roof was an option as I recall.

No, the headliner is perfect and I don't even mind the windscreen.
It's the mechanism - have you seen how it looks from the outside when your roof is fully retracted?

It's the Jaguar marketing department's influence on design, to say, "You want to look at the sky? Buy a F-Type convertible, too."

Ok, fine, but does anyone know if an XF can be obtained without a sunroof?
Personally, I have no interest in them. They just add weight, reduce headroom, and eventually spring leaks. I have one on my S-Type but I never actually open the thing.

Totally wasted on me.

I looked at it retracted and it is UGLY! I never looked from outside before, as I almost never use the sunroof. It slides back over the roof! What a stupid design when they could have slid it inside the roof like so many do. Of course, it would reduce headroom.

I have had numerous sunroofs before and nothing ever looked like this. I suppose I will be glad I never use it.

In the US all XF's come with a sunroof standard. In the UK the standard is a fixed roof matching the vehicle color, and sunroof is a 970 pound (About $1425 USD) option on all models.

These sort of sunroofs extending over, rather than inside the roof are becoming a very popular design, including in German cars. Take a look at the current gen Porsche 911 - it's designed the same. btw, they do it to save interior headroom.

True but they still look bad. It proves no matter the price some vehicles were never designed to have a sunroof. It looks like an add on afterthought.

Geez, if only I had not looked!

Well if the sunroof works properly and doesn't cause any opening or closing problems I guess it wont bother me as much as the seagulls and crows who will get confused about where to drop their loads.
