Default 20" Wheels on '12 XF Base

Hello,

I am considering buying a 2012 XF Base that has 18" wheels. I have a set of 20" Coventry Whitleys (Fronts 20x8.5, Rears 20x10) from my '07 XK that I would like to use as my summer set of wheels. I have been researching if there would be any problems with using these but cannot seem to get a definitive answer.

One dealer tech told that they would go on but if I hit a good bump then the offset makes the fender hit and rub the tire and he wouldn't recommend it. However, a different dealer tech said there wouldn't be any issues.

When I do a search on tirerack for the '12 base, they give a 20" option, 255/35/20 for fronts and 285/30/20 for rears. These are the exact sizes of what I have on my XK.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Thank you in advance.

What he was referring to was the offset. That has nothing to due with tire sizes. You can take two wheels that are both 20" and the same 10in width and the same 285/30/20 but one has a 60 offset and the other has a 40 offset. Offset determines how far in or out the wheel is to the fender. For example, I have a XF S/C and my back wheel offset is 66 but if I replace them with the same wheel and tire combo but the offset was 45 that would mean my rear wheel would almost sit flush with the fender. Cause the stock offset sets the wheel back in the fender. I hope this helps.

^ Absolutely right!

Therefore, the rear wheels on the XK may not work, i believe the offset is much lower.

Thanks for the reply. So how do I determine if the offset for the 20" wheels will have any issues on the XF? Looking back at my invoice for the 20" wheels, I can tell that the offset for the fronts are 42 and the offset for the rears are 39. Bolt pattern is 5x108.

So I went on Coventry Wheels website and they have a fitment guide. Here are the results they recommend...

2012 XF
Fronts - 20x8.5, Offset 42
Rears - 20x10, Offset 45

2012 XFR
Fronts - 20x8.5, Offset 35
Rears - 20x10, Offset 39

As I mentioned earlier my wheels are 20x8.5 Offset 42, and 20x10 Offset 39. The Coventry website states that their wheels are made specifically for Jaguars so I would think they would have the correct specs on their site, but I'm just guessing.

chXFS, I have read numerous places where people reference the 66mm offset for XF SC rears. Coventry does not have the SC listed in their fitment guide, so I'm not sure if that means they just don't make wheels for the SC or what.

The 10" wide wheel won't fit on the rears. Not at 39mm offset. The wheels will be sticking passed the fenders.

Uggghhh...this whole thing is so frustrating. How can a wheel company (Coventry) that claims to only make wheels for Jaguar, put specs on their website that won't even fit! It's driving me crazy.

He either has the Jupiters, Carelias or Sabres. All of which are 19x8.5 up front and 9.5 in the rears.

He said it was the 2012 base XF with 18" and those are not staggered. So what is the stock offset?

Sorry, i misunderstood. I thought you were asking the specs on the OEM XK wheels, since the Coventries he bought originally were for the XK.

The specs on the XF i am not sure off.

Exec, did you get a chance to look at Coventry's website? Here is the chart they have listed for their Whitley wheel for the 2012 XF Rear. My rears that I have are 39mm offset, so a 6mm difference (less than 1/4").

Part Number Size PCD Offset
2010COW455108C63 20x10 5x108 45

2010COW455108B63 20x10 5x108 45

The wheels are OEM, but I'm not sure of the name. They are 18" and I believe 8.5. I do not know the offset though. I do not own the car yet. I am trying to figure out this wheel situation before I pull the trigger.

laterno,

I did look at their website and here is what i came up with.

Lets just backtrack a little to try to figure this out, because i want to help you.

You have a set of Coventry Whitely wheels that you had bought for your XK and would like to use them on the prospective XF you may be buying. They are in 20x8.5 up front and 20x10 rears.... Is the statement correct?

According to their website, the Coventry XK wheels that you have support 25mm offset for the rears(20x10) and 42mm offset for the fronts (20x8.5).

The same exact XF wheels are listed at 42mm offset for the fronts(20x8.5) and 45mm offset for the rears(20x10).

Which means, the rears would not work on the XF. But, the fronts would fit without problems. Since you already have the fronts, i would purchase the rears for the XF at the right offset and you will golden.

I hope this all makes sense, if not, let me know.

Almost correct. The rear wheels that I have from my XK are not 25mm. The following is copied directly from my invoice...

WHITLEY HYPER SILVER/MIRROR WHEEL
COVENTRY - WHITLEY HYPER SILVER/MIRROR
20x10 #2010COW395108S63

WHITLEY HYPER SILVER/MIRROR WHEEL
COVENTRY - WHITLEY HYPER SILVER/MIRROR
20x8.5 #2085COW425108S63

So as you can see, the two fronts are 42mm, and the two rears are 39mm.

Your fine, once you add the extra 1.5" width of wheel and 6mm positive offset. Your golden, the offset is setting the wheel inward 6mm. The difference is going to be the wheel sitting less than an inch out from we're the wheel sits now.
