2010 XFR New Owner Question
My XFR has chrome hood louvres which have some discoloration on them and could use a polish in general.
The manual says not to use metal polish on any of the 'brightwork'... would I be causing any issues using metal polish here?
Also, when I try to set the option for global window closing, it immediately auto-selects back to 'off.' Global window opening selects and works fine.
Cheers,
- Will

I think the hood louvres will be chrome plastic. The hood itself is aluminum. Metal polish won't work on chrome plastic. Discolouration can only be fixed by replacement I believe.
Overcast this morning so a good time to take a photo of my XFR.

As you can see the lower mesh grills/intakes are brightwork... looks from the photos as if most US spec 2010 XFRs have blacked out lower grills (or maybe it's just the lighting in the photos I saw?). They look pretty good on the car I think.
I'm not as much a fan of the chromed hood louvers. They are showing some scratches and discoloration. I would have proferred the original color matched louvers. May look at purchasing an alternative set such as the Mina Gallery ones, which although chromed look a bit better and the mesh would match the grill...
I'm a big fan of the rims, even if they are damn hard to keep clean. One of them has some curb rash however that I would like to touch up. Any recommendations for proceeding?
Cheers,
- Will

I am not sure if there is a cheap meathod to do this (not that I am aware) however I do know there are places (In my small city anyway) which will touch up the rims. I have some curb rash on one from the other day (Only 2 weeks in and already rubbed a curb! I'm an idiot but in my defence this car is about twice as wide as my previous one - Tiburon). Nonetheless I talked to a shop here and they said it would be between $125 and $175 to repair and refinish the rim. I have talked to people who have had them done (on BMW's etc) who said they come out like new and highly recommend. Much better than buying a new one from the dealer who told me they would cost $1499.99 to buy 1 rim!
I would try and check some shops around if it really bothers you. I might get mine done after the winter just incase haha.
Thanks,
Aaron

I carefully sanded the curb rash on my 18 in alloy I scuffed. It turned out the scuff was just in the paint even though it looked like metal scuffing. I used very fine emery cloth.
The paler undercoat paint now shows but this is much less conspicuous than the rash the curb left in the paint. This won't work if the metal is damaged. It is surprising just how thick that paint is.
I don't recommend this as a fix but it can improve the cosmetics until a full repair and repaint are warranted. Don't sand through to bare metal as that starts corrosion causing deeper pitting than if you left well enough alone.
The cost of a full repair and repaint of scuffed rims is around $150 per rim.

I went into Walmart and bought me the touch up paint "silver for Chrysler ". Cleaned my wheel and use that paint on the spot , after a few minuts it got dry. Hardly able to recognize from one feet away

PEP Boys has paint specifically for wheels. I used it on mine and it worked pretty well. I didn't sand and even out the surface first, but it still looked much better than before. There are some places that can fix and change the wheel color, if so inclined.

Any word on the Global Window Close issue? My 2010 XFR does the same thing. I'd be really nice to be able to remotely close my windows if it starts raining at work.
OP:

Global close would be nice, as I am always paranoid to crack the sunroof thinking that I will forget about it...
