Default 2011 XF purchase

Closed the deal on a 2011 XF. Original owner, 46k miles. Black/Silver interior.
Looks like a mighty fine car for just $13,000.00
Looking forward to getting it licensed and tagged next week. Might take it on a long drive.

Any specific things I should be aware of or look out for on these cars?

Thanks, and glad to be a member here.

Very very nice Tim. It is rare to get one that is still a one owner. I have had mine second hand since January 2014. Bought in Chantilly VA. Loved it all this time. Mine has 47.2K miles now and was recently appraised at $15,330 for tax purposes. Though it does have nice goodies like 20" OEM wheels, OEM aluminum pedal kit, OEM trunk liner. These prices make me never want to sell it, to be honest..

What to look out for? The cops. Depending on what car you drove previously, may be easy to speed a tad in this. In all seriousness - keep an eye on the water pump, and the leather on the dash. Also the nav screen. Leather coming up on the dash has been a problem in cars in hot climates, without sunshields. Can cost $3000 for replacement. But in mine, only the water pump and Nav screen have played up.

Have fun Tim and post some pictures. I remember the first month I would drive it for any excuse.

So you 're in Virginia too?
Maybe we can have a beer sometime.
At what mileage did you replace the water pump, and how expensive was it?
How about windshield leaks? I've read a couple of sources that say some cars have leaked around the outer edges.
Mine looks like it might have some tiny bubbles around the edge, but not sure.
THanks!

Have moved down to Asheville NC but visit Charlottesville area fairly frequently. Are you from NOVA? Actually water pump just recently went bad - about 47k miles. I think it hadn't ever been replaced before - although not 100% sure. Was 1500. Bit surprising, but then again I did read about the water pump so was half expecting it to be inevitable.

Never had any windhshield leaks. If you post a closeup picture of your windshield bubbles I can see how it compares to my windshield. Never replaced the windshield during almost 5 years of ownership. Had a case of squeaky wipers a couple years back but that's nothing. All in all, I consider myself very lucky with this car and haven't had really had anything happen that I would have thought it would with Jaguar. Been a very pleasant surprise overall.

Up until this purchase my wife was driving a 2008 Type S, and it's also been a very reliable car. Owned it for 4+ years. Nothing but oil changes and brakes. Currently has 93k on the clock. The consensus seems to be that Jaguars in general are reliable since Ford took them over.
I live just outside Petersburg.
Thanks for the replies.

Look up the DIY threads on here for changing the cooling system plastic and cleaning the intake valves. If you don't change the plastic, you'll become part of the blown engine club, and you will be sad.

I will do that.
This forum has a separate DIY area?
What's the level of difficulty for this as a DIY fix?

Thanks

Haven't been able to find a specific, bullet point DIY thread on this.
Unless it's relatively easy, I doubt I have the mechanical skills to do it anyway. If I could find a good DIY thread or video, I do have a good local mechanic that could probaby handle it for me. Having just bought the car, I'd be inclined to pull the trigger and just replace it all now.

It's not easy.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...cement-165783/

I was talking to a big BMW guy, and he said shops are offering packages to replace all the weak points that aren't in the normal maintenance schedule, like the plastic in the cooling system. Jaguars need the same thing. All cars have weak points, and some of them make very expensive problems when they let go. The plastic in the cooling system is the big one for the XF. I am seeing more and more blown engine threads on here, and that will continue to increase as the cars age because so many people don't know about this problem.

Plastic often lets go in a big way as opposed to metal that can spring small leaks that warn you. Much of the plastic is in halves that are fused together and that can just burst open and ruin your day.

Good to know. I hope to be driving this car for a while, so I’m now trying to locate a good Jaguar mechanic who can do this fior me. Its a very well kept car, but with 46.5k miles I guess I better get on top of it

It's the 5.0 V8. Yea, i knew Ford didn't own them anymore. Just seems that's about when the reliability issues with Jaguars stopped. I hear Tata has maintained that as well. I hope so. I owned several pre Ford Jags, and they all had wiring and other problems that could be a real PITA
