Hi there, I just signed up to this forum as I've been doing a ton of research here throughout the past 2 weeks on a 2011 XFR 5.0 s/c I just picked up yesterday.
Super helpful forum & definitely wanted to become part of the community!
So with knowing what I'm getting into at this point, I went and bought the Jag. It looked better than anything I've ever owned or driven.
I traveled 6hrs (550km) to pick it up; so it was a long day.
NOW on the way home, about 2hrs in all of a sudden the TPMS warning came on, well of course...
Guy told me no lights, no issues. Hoped out and checked tire pressures, all good!
Kept on cruising as I still had a long ways to go.
Done some research along the way and figured maybe tires where over inflated now that I've been driving it highway speed for 2 hours in hot temp, so maybe that triggered it.
Got home and man, I love the car already! Other than the tpms warning lol.
Once home checked tire pressues- seemed fine. So the research continued into the night, leaving me with possibly dead batteries on tpms sensors, module or the antennas. But what are the chances... no lights for 2 hours, then stopped ate first meal of the day, and 10mins after lights flashing... i cancelled it through the dash on red triangle, but it still shows the little low tire icon solid.
Woke up this morning and figured antennas are the easiest to check, couple screws in the wheel well worth a shot!
Checked both front ones and they were nicely wrapped up (not in place) so someone already did something there but why didn't it throw a code right away, or ever, until 2hrs of me driving it... It looks like they been disabled for quite some time.
So trying to find a solution to get rid of the light really.
Thanks a ton for the read & hoping to find some answers!
Ps- i did order a obd2 module to keep track of coolant temps aswell & hopefully I'll be able to delete the code through there somehow.
TPMS last about 7 years. With the lack of history on your new car and the age of the car (2011). I would get and replace all 4 TPMS.
Did you put the initiator back in it's holder in the front bumper? The front ones do seem to travel around up there. I have seen them just hanging by the wires under the car too.
You could try to do some resets of the system if you want to play with it?
Here is a good thread that might help. It really explains how the entire TPMS system works. It's well worth reading. TPMS
The little bit I have done with TPMS always ends up with replacing the 4 wheel sensors. I use the cheap ones off Ebay and did all 4 for around $30-$40 on my 2014 XJR. Discount Tire can check them on the bench before installing. I have had a bad sensor before but the vendor on EBay had no questions and sent another one right out.

I think I might have to work out the kinks before the speed sensors as I'm having trouble finding the front passenger side antenna
nothing there and no wires visible where it might've been...
On the driver side I found the antenna like this
Again the tpms warning light was OFF for 2hrs of me buying/driving car, despite antenna being wrapped like this?
I put it into its little holder for now anyways
I ordered an OBD2 scanner for the car which apparently can read/clear tpms codes... will find out more soon hopefully. But in order to find wiring/tennis racket on passenger side I might also have to invest into a car hoist to be able to remove front plate as I looked everywhere I could and don't find any clues where it might be or wires are...
from there I'll replace wheel valves if still issues. 🤔
Yes that is the clip that holds the initiators. Keep looking on the other side because I think it's there as the system was working as you said.
I usually can get to what I need thru the wheel well liner. Remove a few screws like you did and peel it back. Yes a lift would make all this a breeze.

Took the car out for a spin and upon startup it gave me a message for the first time 'No Rear Signal' from rear passenger tire.
Crawled under there and looked but antenna seems to be tucked away so difficult to see? I looked up the part and it appears the mount is slightly different, & I'm not seeing anything suspicious.
So likely wheel sensors/valves?
I ordered some new rear tires yesterday so probably wouldn't hurt to switch out the valves then aswell once I have them mounted.
do they need programming or just order them as you mentioned and replace?
Yes there is some question on the frequency and outside of removing one and looking at it I am not sure of a 100% accurate way of knowing. Maybe SDD can do it but I have not looked. I have posted this a number of times so take a look at the attached chart to see what your car has or "should" have for sensors.
Jaguar C2Z31510 which is a 433 MHZ version.
Note as always the Jaguar OEM part is WAY more expensive ($100+ EACH!) than the cheap Chinese ones. Your car-your choice. I will say I have installed multiple sets of the cheap $40/4 ones with very little problems. Just the one bad sensor I posted about below. Using that part number to search on should bring up tons of non-OEM sensors at much lower prices too.
Be aware that the chart might not be correct. I always recommend replacing all 4 sensors at the same time. As posted many times the batteries have a life of around 7 years or so.
Yes I have them checked on the bench at Discount Tire BEFORE anything is installed or any tires are dis-mounted. I have gotten a bad TPMS before but the vendor replaced it no questions asked. I used the cheap TPMS off EBay and for around $40 for 4 of them and had no problems.
Just my two cents but do yourself a favor and just cough up the dough for the real OEM Jaguar sensors while you still can. You can shop online and find oem parts vendors that offer some decent discounts. Yes, plenty of people have used aftermarket sensors with no problems. But once in a while you get a set of TPMS sensors (or a Jaguar itself) that won't maintain a constant signal/reception. Indeed, they will exhibit the symptoms of working fine for a while after a reset, and then throw an error code after a few miles or even up to a few weeks later. It'll be one wheel. Then another. You reset it each time and wait till it loses the signal again. Over and over it goes, very random taking inordinate hours of your time to mess with it, returning to the shop over and over to swap tires around and swap out replacement sensors, etc.. What's your time worth? Save yourself the aggravation. Soon enough we're not going to be able to even get OEM TPMS sensors anymore and will be forced to deal with it then. No need to start early.
That could even be what's wrong. The guy you bought the car from may have let the tire store replace the sensors and has just been living with it. May have been "the last straw" so he cleared the codes just before you came to inspect it. There's a few cases documented on this forum of aftermarket TPMS aggravation. I should have heeded the warning myself, but I asked my indie first and he told me to just let the tire store install them, that's what he does, but to have them write down the serial numbers of each unit/corner and he could manually reprogram the system if needed. Well he couldn't make it work and at least he didn't charge me for every visit he spent trying. The savings in this case isn't worth the risk unless you're a retired, tech-savvy DIY'er with your own Harbor Freight tire mount and balance tools and a lot of patience. I've learned my lesson the hard way.
I ordered and received a TPMS unit and did a check. 315MHZ and all sensors seem to be working w. Battery, but it is throwing an intermittent code between sensor & sending unit, guess I'll have to track down antenna, haven't found it yet... what is the easiest way to locate it please?
Jag TPMS monitoring system keeps telling me passenger side rear...
So i jacked up rear passenger side of car, removed wheel liner and located the antenna mounted nicely, plug looks good and wiring too... next, order a new antenna... do they tend to fail?
