Default 2013 XFR (250) Heating and cooling seats being stubborn...

Hi All,
First of all thanks to everyone for the previous threads on here, without you lot I would be much further behind on this.

Both seats heating and cooling stopped working at the same time. So far I have; checked both fuses (passenger 27/29) and tried to access the DCSM module over the bus with no response to my iCarsoft scanner.

The fans don't run, or at least I can't hear them. The controls respond on the dash, but nothing from the seats. The seat movement controls are working but I believe that's a separate sub-system.

I'm assuming that as the module isn't responding that the issue is either a totally dead module, or that the power wire has become disconnected or burnt out. I'm waiting for a set of torx sockets to arrive to remove the drivers seat (front left in UK) where I understand the module is and inspect the module / wiring.

Is there anything else you knowledgeable lot might suggest I look into???

Anyway, thanks in advance for any constructive feedback!

Cheers
Barry M

Usual response here is to search the forums, as this topic has been covered fairly extensively.

The module is probably fine, the issue here is the peltier heater/cooler units in the seats. There's one in the base and one in the back, and the way they work is when supplied a voltage, they heat the air going over them, and when the polarity is reversed, they cool it. The issue occurs when not enough air passes over the module - it overheats, and then cuts out. Too many occurences of this happening can cause (in my experience) permanent module failure, but it depends if you can catch it early enough I guess.

The two things that cause low airflow over these units are either dirty air filters on the intake (which isn't likely, but possible) or far more common is a cracked air pipe between the motor (with the filter attached) and the peltier module, so all the air leaks out and it's not enough to cool the peltier (warm the air) and it cuts out.

You should be able to find the threads where accessing these modules is detailed.

your drivers seat is ' front right ' in the UK and is where the heat/cooling module is located, its fixed to the cross beam under the carpet once the seat is tilted back of its fixings,

You know you'd think I'd know my left from right by now... Thanks for the clarification! :-)

Hi Barry,

Were you able to get yours resolved & if so, how were you able to correct it?

I'm experiencing the same problem on my 2013 XF 3L AWD. No heat or cool in either seat, lights in dash show as working fine, fuses are fine. Harder to troubleshoot when both don't work. Otherwise I could swap the module to the other side, for example.
