Can't switch engine off - Fault "Engine Systems Fault"
Hi all, my partner is 25 miles away with 50 miles of Diesel in our XF 2011 3.0L Diesel and can't switch the engine off to fill up.
A message on the display says "engine systems fault". I saw about removing the fuse, she is unable to do that and the petrol station worker "doesn't like electrics".
Is there any other way to stop the engine, and what are the chances of it restarting? I saw it could be a low battery voltage. It seems insane not to be able to switch a car off!
I can't get there as I don't have another car. Recovery services will take 90 mins so it will run dry by then. Wondering on anyone having a great idea to help?!
Cheers. So when she got home I had to disconnect the battery as it was hammering with rain and the image I had of the fuses was obviously for the wrong model, fuse F37 under the bonnet wasn't where I expected for the ignition.
I left it unconnected for half an hour, now when getting into the car, the Jaguar screensaver screen comes up, but the car won't start and even just trying to turn on the car without the brake on to get info screens on does nothing.
Battery voltage is 12.48v, there is some green hardened gunk around the negative terminal so I'll need a new battery. Currently have the RAC out to assess as there is nothing relevant showing via ODB port (but as the car isn't powered on I would expect that).
Cheers @metmadcab. Thinking about it that probably would explain the issue.
Unfortunately now the car won't get past the screensaver and the RAC suspect when I disconnect the battery I may have fried the keyless entry module.
So now booked into Jaguar but of the 5 garages within 50 miles, the first appointment is Mid June.
If anyone has any idea how to get it fixed it would be great to hear, but I guess this is a Jaguar garage only issue.
How on earth can you design a car that you can't turn off
Car handbrake is stuck on so when it does go to a garage I need (RAC will) get a flatbed to transport it.
Having to leave it unlocked with a key in because if I take the keys away, it locks after a few minutes and then the alarm goes off

That is different. On my 09, you can't set the car to auto-lock, only auto-arm the alarm. I take it after you unlock it, you open a door then close it. If not it will auto-lock itself.
If you have power, press the start button (foot off brake), hold the park brake button down & hold it, turn power off, release park brake. It should now be disengaged, so chock the wheels first.

Just went up to try this, pressed the start button on the off chance and the car started with no issue!
So, need to do a couple of work calls. But will then try ODB before a test drive to the petrol station. Then will try to assess if any tightening is needed on gear selector module.
Just tried again and get "park brake fault" but parking brake is engaging and disengaging as expected. But car not starting, it just makes whiper sound, like a capacitor discharging.
I'm going to get a new battery to rule that out, seems random XF faults could be caused by that and due to that leaking may as well get another one.
In my 2009 Jaguar XF this message is generated by the gear selector module
I suggest removing the module and screwing it together properly.
Thanks I tried this. There were some minor tightens done. Result still the same.
Replaced battery and there is minor progress. Car starts, although it takes 3 attempts. So for the first 2 it cranks for one second and then stops. The third time it starts.
Has the message "Engine Systems Fault" but does drive. I had to go and fill up with diesel and that was all fine.
Am going to a garage today to get codes read.
Apologies if I'm using this forum wrong, it's a new thing for me! This fault is now a bit different from title. Let me know if I should raise a new thread :-)
Hello again,
I still bet that the gear selector module is causing the problem. There is a poor contact somewhere, in the plug or, more likely, on the electronic board, a bad solder joint somewhere.
Please get the codes first. Doing random repairs is just shooting blind. These are massively complicated computer driven cars. Always start with the codes! Always!
Post back what the shop finds.
Also be aware the US did not get Diesels so we are weak on any repair information.
