Interestingly, the stoplight stalling has only ever happened in my neighborhood.

Well, you solved the mystery yourself, and the solution is easy then, isn't it? You just need to move to another neighborhood. Your current neighborhood was clearly built on an ancient Indian burial ground.

Commonly a stall sets a code - with my car P1582 or the like - to help with diagnosis.

Need an OE tool to do much with it, though.

Well, the engine fault light came on. My service shop ran the codes and got LEAN. The car seems to be running well - the new fuel pump made a huge difference. I'll be leaving it at the shop next week before I fly out for a week's vacation. I hope everything is sorted by the time I get back. Here's what I'm experiencing:
  1. Very intermittent stalling at a stoplight (but only in my neighborhood so lotusespritse has probably correctly diagnosed it as driving over an ancient Indian burial ground) .
  2. Very intermittent start problems - engine turns over then dies, but then starts right up.
  3. The idle is a bit rough when the engine is cold - feels like mild misfiring.
I think it's time to retire it from daily driving/commute duties. I'll either get a cheap commute car or just replace it (love the car but my nerves and bank account cannot handle monthly repairs).

Ok, my questions are,
Did the shop verify your low pressure, fuel pressure readings for the tank pump BEFORE AND AFTER they replaced the tank pump? Was the output pressure of your high pressure fuel pumps been verified, once the low pressure side was diagnosed and fixed? Was the main fuel filter (not just the pickup filter sock) changed with the pump?
The X250's AJ133 fuel system is very complex,
3 pumps
3 filters
a low pressure sensor from the tank pump
An external tank fuel pump controller.
and the ECM calling all the shots, it's important good verification technics are used. Throwing parts at a Jag gets expensive real quick. I hope it was the fuel pump...
How important is verifying low pressure output? From the manual-
"If the ECM does not detect pressure in the fuel delivery line, it stops, or refuses to start the engine and stores the appropriate DTC (diagnostic trouble code)".
