Angry Fob and keyless entry not working

Hi all, I've stalked for a long time and I finally have an issue I can't resolve. Any helpful direction would be grateful.

So... Car battery went dead as I haven't used the car XF / x250 /2013.

Took the battery out, charged it up and boom, on return the keyless entry, start and remote unlocking don't work. I have to use the key and hold my fob on the plate to start the car.

Things tried...
  • Fuse for keyless vehicle module
  • All other fuses ok
  • Fobs have been cleaned, New batteries etc.
  • Bought Mongoose and SSD
  • Went through battery change process
  • All modules appear OK, ran check antenna program
i have the wiring diagrams so I'm going to check the module does indeed have power and is sending it to the antenna.

If you have a second key fob, is that doing the same thing?
if not, check inside fob to make sure the upright tab that contacts the side of battery is not bent out of shape.
I also read that only brand name CR batteries should be used as cheaper brands don’t do well.
I’m sure someone else will post the specific brands of battery that are best.

Yeah sorry should have been clearer, i have two fobs, both are doing the same thing. The car struggled to start, i knew the battery was low, i was moving home, however the drive was only a few minutes. two weeks later the battery was dead.

I stripped and cleaned the pcb, checked the terminals, and bought duracel batteries (replaced both) but no dice.

Get a new vehicle battery. Total discharge is a killer from which they rarely recover. Also, with a new vehicle battery described as 'charged', trickle charge overnight before fitting to bring it to peak. A CTEK would then be a wise investment to prevent a repeat.

It would be a remarkable coincidence for both smartkey batteries to fail at the same time. I suspect your failing vehicle battery is the cause of the entry and starting difficulties.

Hi, thank you for the reply. You're 100% right a new battery is on the cards, the confusing part is the battery, despite the drain it, atm is at least functional & at full charge level (driven a lot the last few weeks) the car runs fine all but the reciever and the antenna not finding the fobs.

It started raining so i couldn't prove power to the antennas. tomorrow is meant to be sunny(ish) im starting to look at at actual hardware fault. The rf reciever and the fobs are not going to work if the KVM is faulty, im hoping for a loose wire, in the mean time a spare KVM is only £15 on ebay so worth a punt.

Could be this....
I have been told if you have SDD you can run the immobilisation programme to get things working again, although this will need to be repeated if you again disconnect the battery.

How is there a separate sticky for marketing materials, bluetooth bs, and a How-to not updated for the past 12 years, but not a peep about basic maintenance wrecking this cars electronics after simply not driving the car for too long.
