Fuel Pump Replacement

Hi All,

Unfortunately, I recently received the dreaded "Restricted Performance" indicator on the dash for my Jaguar XF 5.0 N/A. Car has around 150K miles and was driving fine until this happened.

The car is now in limp mode and has about half the engine power it normally has. Euro Service rep isolated the issue and stated that both fuel pumps have faulted and will need replacement. Verified fuel pump pressure at 360kpa, and the car requires 5000 at idle for normal operation.

Due to the crankshaft position codes and small amount of metal shards in the also suspect timing chain, guides etc may be worn. This is exactly what we all like to hear right?

Before I do anything else I want to replace both fuel pumps first (easiest thing to do right now). I'm aware their is one fuel pump in the gas tank under the passenger seats but, there appears to also be another fuel pump possibly over the engine bank.

Does anyone know whereabout all the fuel pumps are located on the X250 5.0 N/A or have any insight on how to replace the other fuel pump that's not in the tank?

I atleast want to get the car moving again.

You'd be a huge help thanks!

There is an electric fuel pump in the fuel tank that primes the high pressure pumps when the vehicle is unlocked.

The high pressure pumps are located along the RH side (when viewed from the driving position) of the lower part of the engine and feed fuel to the injectors via stainless steel pipes. You can locate the high pressure pumps by tracing the stainless steel lines down the RH side of the engine.

Thanks. How many high pressure pumps are there?
Do you have any good guide/instructions for replacing the HPFP?

Your car has 3 fuel pumps. The old stand by low pressure electric pump mounted in the fuel tank. Note it's not talked about BUT that pump has an integrated fuel filter that is not considered serviceable unless you replace the entire pump. Now I have found the filter sold separately but not by Jaguar!

Since you have a DI engine you also have 2 gear driven fuel pumps mounted on the passenger side of the engine down low by the oil pan. Here is what they look like.

These are NOT cheap! Here is a listing and it's $450 for the set or so it says? That's a great price for 2 of these so call before ordering to make sure!

Note I am not sure if the NA engine uses the same pumps as the SC version either?

Yes I just recently found that out too. But I see different part numbers for what looks to be the same part?
I got C2D28280 for my 2014 XJ. Have not got in there yet so hoping it's correct. Plus all of these look exactly the same so I can't find out what or if there are any differences?
Mine did get hung up in China for about 3 weeks. But I finally got it.

Agreed wth IanXF, I had the same part recetly fixed by dealership, it was leakin fumes of the gasoline and even empting my tank, I noticed the smell would be strong when I had filled her up to max and demanded Jaguar to look at the problem immediately since it was a "health risk" at first they were trying to push me into Jan 2023 but with my demand they luckily "fit " me in

OK good to know! Confusing because most ads include all the Jaguar models. In fact the one I ordered lists XF and XJ?
Fuel Filter
Thanks.
