I was at a clients office yesterday and told my story and one of the guys relayed he had a car with a 36,000 mile warranty and the engine had major problems at 38,000 and they replaced it for him; free of charge (and out of warranty). Most people understand the car is out of warranty but expect a manufacturer to care and even help if their motor ceased so young.
My hunch is that there's been a problem with this motor for a long time as I have had phantom (maybe not) restricted performance and check engine lights over the years. The dealer is aware of this. It's also had more than its fair share of dealer performed repairs over the years. I think they may take engine apart and try to understand why it failed. I'd expect to know more next week.
As for Lotus - I understand the slippery slope and customers can't whine to the manufacturer every time they need a repair post warranty. Heck, I spent $1,800 on injectors just 4 months ago. But when a motor ceases well before 100K - the manufacturer, in the case Jaguar needs to be engaged IMO. And although you want to blame it on my road home - no one else does; and the problem ALREADY surfaced. The car acted and sounded no different after the ride home from the local mall.
Lotus, you seem angry. I am confident you won't be paying anything extra on your next Jaguar based on my car's situation. Shew!!
Lol, the value of your Audi R8 disguised as a Lambo is tanking while my true Lambo V12 six-speed manual is appreciating.
If yours was the better car to have, it would be other way around. Sorry, but you got suckered.

Not angry, just disappointed that even adults that should know better don't want to take responsibility for anything, prefer to blame others, and want something for nothing. There's a lot people like that.
But glad you are resigned to the fact that Jaguar will likely not take responsibility for your engine that you modified outside of Jag's recommendations, probably abused (don't know that for sure, but based on the mods and your other posts, quite likely), and kept driving with after the problems occurred. I see plenty of posts on the internet giving women a hard time when they keep driving cars after lights like low oil or coolant come on the dash, so it's only fitting to give you a hard time (and you should probably turn in Man Card to be safe).
I had a saga with jag on my engine. Just out of the warranty by a couple of thousand miles and the engine develops a problem. Turns out that the head was milled incorrectly and the head gasket finally failed. I had the engine pulled, head and mating surface milled and new gaskets put in.
Jaguar's response was basically, "tough, go pound sand". (might have something to do with their offices being in New Jersey. )
Jaguar has pretty crappy customer service in general.

It's called TECHNOLOGY Lotus, and it's why on track day this V10 will run circles around your V12, I buy cars to DRIVE not collect. Oh and please post some PICTURES of you and your Lambo, hope ya not CATFISHING.
Haha! You sound a little peanut butter and jealous! LOL!
Sorry to rain on your parade, but the legendary Italian V12 definitely shares the stable with the ultra cool Esprit and the other Brits. Notice how all the cars in the pic match the sig. Shady dude probably rented that Lambo for a day and snapped some pics in someone else's garage. Shady dudes do that a lot to show off. Maybe he just went to someone else's house to clean it, and took the pic while the owner wasn't looking. I keep my garage locked so that doesn't happen.
I am ready to accept your public apology. Please proceed.

Remember dealers/manufacturers are privy to much more info than us individuals as far as defective or failure rates, and these things never play out fast so stay in it to win Mark.
Back in 1990 Ford exchanged my what I thought was a new Mustang GT for a new 1991GT (a picture of it is in my albums).
Why? Well it was not for any of the following
In 8mo.
The trans overdrive band burned out 2x.
The power steering rack blew an end seal.
It twisted and axel.
The hatch rattled like crazy because it had been wrecked at the factory and re-welded by machine, and machine that only existed in Dearborn MI. according to a Ford tech.
Nope none of the above, Ford bought it back because their records showed it had been a test car and should not have been sold to me as new. No extra miles showed up on the OD because it was re set by the factory.
So stay in the fight as long as you can Mark.
Thanks Will, I am being VERY patient and told Jaguar dealer as much; no rush as I would rather them be thorough as I am convinced there was something wrong with that motor for some time now. Mysterious codes, warning lights, etc.
You buy a washer and dryer for $2500 and it comes with 1 year manufacturer warranty. 14 months later it dies.
You throw it away and buy a new one or reach out to manufacturer?
I would order the parts and fix it. But I am a man's man that's pretty handy. I do all my own work on my exotics and my daily's. Check my DIY thread of tearing into the engine to proactively replace failure prone parts in our engines. That's over $1000 in parts that I spent out of pocket with hours of my hard labor just so I can prevent known weaknesses in the engineering of our cooling system and the fouling of our intake valve. No car is perfectly engineered, even the Japanese ones, and I understand and accept that.
But realistically, a regular dryer costs around $500, so a Jaguar XF level dryer would cost around $1000, and $2500 would be more like a Maybach dryer.
And if I modified the dryer with performance parts to make it dry faster than the manufacturer recommends, and I rode it hard by overfilling it with clothes, and I ignored it making weird noises and kept on drying those loads when all the warning lights came on, I sure as heck wouldn't expect anything from the manufacturer, and I wouldn't go busting on Best Buy for selling it to me like they are the ones that made it.
I replaced the rear shocks on my grey Jag 15 months ago because they were faulty. Paid out of pocket to buy the parts. They are failing again, and I checked the warranty is 12 months on the part, so I ordered another set out of pocket and will put them on without complaining and move on with my life.

FYI all, I have made my point on this topic so I will no longer be answering your questions for me about Mark's engine failure or my epic car collection.
