Talking I am stunned !!

Took my 09 XF-SC in for a 40K service and had a discussion regarding the bubbling that has just started to occur on the dash on either side of the top speaker grill. I bought the car from them (50 miles away) and have had it serviced there since. It had 20K miles on it when I bought it so it also had a CPO extended warranty. I took it in to a more local dealer regarding the dash and as many here can testify, they blew me off. Trim not covered under warranty and mother nature is going to do her thing regardless etc etc. Well, this dealer had the Mgr. take a look and hear my story about how I care for my car and they agreed with me that it was a defect ! They are going to replace the entire dash cover (leather) for FREE. I DAMN NEAR PASSED OUT !! Now, the question is, will the new dash be an improved version or just a replacement? They also claim that the technician that will be installing it has a highly rated certification acquired in Britain and he and he alone will do the job. Could all this be a dream? I should go out and buy a Lotto ticket.

Under the factory warranty, perhaps………but under a CPO warranty, not so much, if at all.

Before you leave the site after the work is completed - be sure to check to see if everything works. My experience (this was a few years ago) was that the dealership replaced my dash at no cost but it wasn't until the following spring that I turned the AC on and discovered the center dash vents did not operate. By that time, the dealership that did the work closed and the local Land Rover dealer took over the Jag business but was not interested in taking on a mistake by the previous dealership. We've been told the entire center console and dash needs to be removed to determine and fix the problem, so we have learned to live with only the side vents providing AC. Good luck, it sounds like you have won the lotto, just not the big prize.

chuck007,

Another item to look for. My original dash on MY 2009 had a fine grain leather that matched the tops of the door trim panels. I noticed the replacement dash, matched the color correctly, but has a courser, larger grain pattern. If you know to look for it, you can see the difference, otherwise, most people do not notice it. Also, if you think of it, I would appreciate if you asked the 'expert' if there are any easy fixes to my center dash vent problem - I get no air flow from the center vents regardless of the options I select with the climate controls. I initially suspected perhaps some packing material might be in the way and I tried poking around with a straight piece of wire through the vent openings but I got nowhere. Thanks and good luck.

they either didnt snap the connectors in at all or more likely not all the way. They are a bear to fully seat and its about 15 minutes to remove facia pieces and snap them in

Chuck,

Thanks for the insight.

Can you tell us who the dealer is? I just moved to California and need a new dealer location.

Thanks.

This dealer is in Mission Viejo (only one) and is where I originally bought my car. The staff and management has changed since then and seems very customer oriented.

Also try Anaheim Hills and ask for Jay. They've been much more reliable than the dealership in Newport. Went to Mission Viejo once and they started pushing brake pads way too early for me so I never went back.
