Default Infamous bubbling dashboard

Yes, I have a car with the bubbling dash. In lieu of fully replacing it for now, I think I can pull it back from the windshield end just enough to reapply some industrial adhesive that I have been using on everything whenever I need permanent adhesion, and lay it back down and make at least some improvement. But I also want to replace the speaker grille that sits in the middle of this dash, because the one in there now has a chipped corner. Does anyone have a source for those grilles and any removal tips? Does it just pry up from the dash?

it does pry up, but when I removed mine (2010), the plastic was so brittle that everything shattered.

I remember seeing a post from someone in the LA area that mentioned they took their car to an upholstery place that was able to remove their windshield and stretch and reglue the leather that way. May be worthwhile.

If you have not had the Takata air bag recall done, get that done and have your dash redone while Jag has it out. A place in Colton CA. use to do them by taking out the window
Jakesdad I see your in Murrietta CA, I got my Takata recall done at Alvarez Jag in Riverside, they stripped a mount and broke a tab off, that equaled a new dash for my XFR!

Not true. They changed the air bags on both of my XF's without removing the dash. I guess it's possible your dealer doesn't know how to do the job right, especially since they broke it while doing the work.

I have to agree with lotuse. Just got my recall notice in mail today (parts won’t be availible until mid-2019 - ugg) and it states it is a 2 hour job. No way they remove and install a dash in 2 hours.

well, I just had the recall done last week at Alvarez and they did the job in about 2 hours while I waited. I wish I could say the dash looks worse than before they did it, but it looks exactly the same. I dont know if the dash was removed or not.

Default My experience

Here is a photo from when I changed my dash pad. Once the glovebox module is out, the airbag can be accessed with the dash in the vehicle.
The airbag module. Held in place by 8 studs, washers and nuts.

Maybe Jag has given them a engineering work around since the service manual also says the dash need to come off to service the air bags, oh well. Good luck with those wrinkled and bubbled dashes.

just a quick note about the jag dealer airbag experience...
they told me it be about 2 1/2 hrs and since I had nothing else urgent going on, I said I would wait.
Made myself comfortable in the lounge and started reading the web on phone and conducting some mobile business. 3 hrs went by and I went bavk to the service desk to inquire as to status of vehicle, at which time I was told it had been sitting ready to leave for an hour! No one bothered to come get me out of the lounge even though they knew I was waiting on site . I hate having "professionals" work on my car.
