Default Mud flaps

Just installed a set of mud flaps on my XF. Got them here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Splash-Guar...LH_TitleDesc=0

Here are the pix (notice they're labelled JACUAR..., probably for copy write purposes.

Despite many people not being fans of mudflaps, I like them. On my current 09 xf there is some light "scuffing" behind the rear wheels from debris etc. being thrown up. I had thought about fitting flaps and now I'm more convinced.

Why not, they're cheap and easy on/easy off if you don't like them

I put 'em on my 5.0 a few weeks back just to stop the paint chips coming off the wheels. I think they actually look pretty good. I didn't want to wait for the slow boat from China so got 'em on Amazon for a bit more money but my thought was if they were crap at least Amazon would take 'em back. Did you get directions for putting them on a BMW as well?

When we put our XF on "year round duty" after the first few years of it being a "summer only queen", I installed a set of the generic, plastic flaps that are available at most auto parts stores. They help keep the slush and cinders thrown up by the tires, from abrading the lower bodywork of the car. The ones pictured in this discussion look pretty good, but the misspelling of "Jaguar" would bother me....

It's a feature, plus an eye test to see how closely people look and what their expectations are.
No one's mentioned it to me, yet...

Oh, another thing about those mud flaps, they are crafted directly for our XF version. They exactly fit the contours of the lower body and extend out and around the wheel opening. They are not simply attached flush to the inner wheel liner. The fronts have a little triangle that matches the gap above the lower body panel. I "almost" got that fit perfect.
To get it exact I would've needed a second set of eyes. I did it by feel lying on my back with my head by the wheel while installing the self tapping screws. It would have been better to have had someone else to position it and then hold it while I lined up the screws.

Mud flaps make any car look like a grandpa car. They look ok on offroad vehicles.

I put mud flaps on a car one time to protect the paint despite the stupid look, but what I found is that they protect about 2 inches behind the mud flap, and then everything beyond that 2" still takes a beating and gets filthy. But the real kicker is that the mud flaps damage the paint over time from scuffing and dirt getting between the mud flaps and the paint.

Just horrible things in my opinion, and I will never waste money on them again.

Understand, but I live in New England. They protect against snow build up behind the wheels.

I agree, as I live in western NY. They do NOT look all that great, but they DO have a purpose.

Ah, a real true New Yorker! Everybody else calls it "upstate" (where "everybody" constitutes the group of people from south of Poughkeepsie... )

So they should be called snow flaps?

I used to live in Worcester, Mass for 4 years, and I didn't have snow or mud flaps on my car. What problem does snow buildup cause behind the wheel?

Damage to the paint in areas behind the wheel openings.
SAABs that I owned, back in the day, had mud flaps behind the front wheels, but both ahead and behind the rear wheels (i.e., 6 sets of flaps).
Guess the Swedes really knew their winter driving
But then GM took over...
