Default Need help with OBD code P0017

My 2012 Jaguar XF Supercharged went into Restricted Performance Mode and is idling roughly. My code reader shows this code:

P0017 Crankshaft Position Camshaft Position Correlation Bank 1 Sensor B

I can't find much on here or Google regarding this error for Jaguar specifically. Does anyone have any experience with this one?

Thanks for any guidance

1) Clear the codes, see if it reappears. Your idle is rough because once the ECU sees problems with the camshaft timing it puts it into limp-home mode and just stops bothering to adjust the timing (essentially).
2) Swap the camshaft position sensors on Bank 1 (left hand side as you're looking at the engine) with Bank 2 - you may have to remove some things to get at them but it's not too hard. Clear the codes and see if the fault code moves to Bank 2 - it's unlikely the sensor's failed but possible.
3) Next swap the VCT Solenoids from Bank 1 to Bank 2 and see (hope) that the fault moves to the other bank after clearing. If it does, you have a faulty solenoid.
4) If the fault code doesn't move to the other bank after clearing and swapping both sensors and solenoids, it's either a wiring problem (unlikely) or you have a failed VVT, which requires removal of the timing gear to replace.

See attached doc.

Great info. Now I've got something to try.
Clearing the codes did not help - so I'll move to steps 2 and 3.
I'll post an update with my findings - finger crossed.

One more question - when you clear the codes, does it come back as soon as you re-read them, or do you need to drive the car to trip the restricted performance message and the code?

Can you start the engine and idle/rev it in park without the message coming up after you've cleared the codes?

Code comes back immediately just idling in the driveway. Instantly goes into Restricted mode.

OK interesting - when I fit a damaged (exhaust) VVT phaser during my engine rebuild I had to creep it forward on idle with a hot engine for it to trip. If it happens immediately on startup it could well be a sensor - let's see!

I now have this code as well:

P054D Cold Start B Camshaft Position Timing Over-Retarded

That code is for Bank 2 - and this is without swapping any sensors or solenoids? If you end up getting errors for bank 1 AND 2 you might want to consider the crank sensor - it's mounted underneath the block on the right-hand side of the engine as you're looking at it, right on the line of the transmission bellhousing. Check the state of the wiring first.

How's your oil level?

(Well I'm assuming its A, they both are the same type of sensor) I didn't swap both of them out to bank 2. Should I do that step???
