Default New to 2010 XF

It was time to give up my 2000 S-Type and upgrade to a newer car. We got a 2010 XF Premium and drove it home 200mi and it was a pleasure to drive. I am sure I will have several questions as time goes on.

From what I have seen so far the dash leather needs attention but that will come in time. I am a bit putout that it does not have a temperature and oil gauge but I will try a work around down the road. That is all I have for now but I am sure I will come up with something as my inspection continues.

Lucky you. Loved the XF when it first came out and still do, especially the original version before the face-lift. The dash reminds me of the X300 XJ.

Welcome to the fold. I parted company with my 96 x300 4.0 litre back in January 2018 and moved over to a 2009 xf 3.0 D and I have enjoyed every moment with it. If I had one minor niggle it would be that the build quality on the xf is not up to the standard of the xj, especially given that the xj was 13 years older. Bit I'm loving It!

I noted the same thing, more squeaks and rattles at 27K miles than the old xj8 had at 100K. But on the other hand, the XF is much more stiffly sprung with much lower profile tires. That probably contributes to things shaking loose. One thing for sure is the XF key fobs are flaky. I sure wish they still just had an old fashioned ignition switch even if Jaguar did have a weird skeleton key. I do enjoy the backup camera and the i-phone connectivity tho. I call it an update rather than an upgrade, but the XJ series 351 grew too large and was going to be too tight a fit in my attached garage.

I loved those keys. Always went in smoothly and virtually impossible to break.

I actually find the ride a better " road hugging" experience in the xf. It feels like it's on rails on my local twisting country roads. The xj was much more floaty and I always had the feeling that the rear end might kick out. But it's in the general build quality that I think the xf fails somewhat. The doors and boot/trunk don't close with the same, solid clunk as the xj. The interior has more little squeaks and rattles and I find the push buttons on the dash and steering wheel to be a tiny bit "vague" if that makes sense. But it's in the driving that the xf really comes into its own. Very responsive, very stable with great stopping ability. Long may the love affair last!

Congrats! Chase down those squeaks! I have a 2010 XF Supercharged with nearly 60k miles and not a single squeak and rattle. There have been a few but you can find them and solve them

Look for - creaky sunroof (seal dries out) - apply sylglide once a year and not a sound. Irritating rattle from pax door when no passenger - seatbelt buckle rattling on B pillar. Just route it over seat bolster and silent
Sometimes in the doors then you have to drop doorcard and get creative with foam but I've not had that!

Enjoy!!

Gus, welcome to the XF part of the forum.

I am certainly glad you made to change because you will love the car and because now I hope your excellent repair website will start to include the XF (X250) models. I previously had an XK8 (X100) and your library of DIY information was invaluable. Been missing that resource.

The good news is that my XF has not had as many of the issues that I faced with the XK8 (knock on wood), but it will eventually.

Enjoy the new ride. It's a beauty.

Thank you! I just got back from having the A/C fixed (system overcharged) and the tire pressure system looked at ( after market sensors were installed) providing system failure to communicate. I have a few little issues I need to look at but that will come in time.

As for the XF info it seems to be hard to find but I am gathering what I can find and will be posting it soon. When I get or make time!! I still have the XK8 that keeps me busy.

Yes I like the car and the 5.0 has a lot more power than I am use to. Sweet ride!
