I am new to the XF Forum but have been posting stuff related to XK8 & S-Type for years. Most all postings are of areas I had to correct or work on but I also have wiring diagrams and trouble codes on my web page.
"Castrol 5w20 was what was recommended in the owner’s manual so that is what I got"
FYI, that's not what's recommended by Jaguar. It's "Castrol Edge Professional OE 5W/20"
That is much harder to obtain, and much more expensive. But if you are going to follow manufacturer's recommendation, then you need that oil. The only place I have found it reliably is here:
I hear your concern and I was concerned as well. The oil recommended was hard to find and was not on the shelf for easy access so I elected to check with a friend who is with Jaguar that I have been dealing with and trusted for years. I was told that that in 2015 Jaguar changed the oils to 0w20 and made it retro to 2010 for the 5.0 engine and that all they use now is 0w20 Castrol Edge. I elected to use 5w20 because of the ambient temperatures I am located in. As I stated the Castrol Edge Full Synthetic 5w20 was my choice and I felt an educated one.

SAE 0W-20 is correct. I agree with both of you. Just changed mine a couple of weeks ago and purchased the oil and filter at my Jag dealer. I was told it is more for getting the oil up to the top end (timing chains) on startup then anything else. If your ambient temps are in the cooler temps more then the warmer then all the more reason to use SAE 0W-20. Pretty sure nearly all of you here know this.
I also learned what those numbers meant that day. I've been running heavy equipment all my life and never knew this info.
$9.95 a quart is what I paid

Please can you provide more details about where you sprayed lube on the sticking door locks? I can't see many places to spray stuff without removing the trim. I'm very curious.
