Oli change, is there a drain plug
Surfed over to the XK list (after surfing here from the S-Type list) and caught a discussion about oil changes. Learned that XKs with the 4.2 have conventional oil changes (i.e., drain oil out the bottom and fill from the top) but that it is different with the 5.0. According to them, there is no drain plug and the oil is sucked out from the top.
Is that true for XFs with the 5.0 motor? What about the 3.0s?

I believe all XF engines (4s, 6s & 8s, petrol & diesel) have oil drain/sump plugs.
It's just that with the 2009 updates most of them added the 'suck the oil out from the top through a special hole' option.

Interesting, then it seems that, perhaps, they needed to reengineer the XK sump. Probably to fit the engine under the lower cowl (i.e., the hood) do you think?

Before you become too misled, oil changes in all 5.0 engines and the 3.0 V-6 derived from them are done by sucking the old oil out the filler pipe atop the engine using a special machine. Engines in the XK, XF, XJ, and F-Type are identical in this regard. If you remove the engine undertray however, you will find in all cases that a conventional drain plug has been provided as a redundant backup.

Ah, ok, then there is some provision for having a local garage do the oil change.
On my 4.2 S-Type the shield under the engine has to be removed to access the drain plug, but my filler does not have, what sounds to be, a separate passage for vacuum oil removal.

Uhm isnt that what he said at the end, that there is also a drain plug?
What blows me away on the 2015 is no dipstick to check oil level. I know Audi has done the same on newer models. I'm a see it to believe it type of girl and want to be able to check my oil level and color with my own eyes.
