Default please help with dash air bag light for title certification!

hello all,
and thanks in advance for any great advice/knowledge that you can provide!

I helped purchase my father a 2010 Jaguar XF Supercharged that had been in an accident. he really deserves a great car! It had front driver side damage and had the driver airbag replaced. (bu jag dealer) it has approx. 10k miles. drives great and is a beauty.

ISSUE:
I purchased it from a 'respectable' individual form ebay and had it shipped from FL. it had a REBUILT/PASSED Florida title. well in Ga you must have each vehicle that has a rebuilt branded title. Upon inspection everything was perfect EXCEPT;
the air bag light in the dash will NOT come on. I have read some posts about issues with it going off, but this one would not come on, not even on initial start up. Because of this, the car failed to pass inspection and my father cannot drive it.

Does anyone have any advice on what we should do?

thanks!!!! Nick

Sounds like some issues were not repaired from the accident. If you want to turn it off without actually fixing any of the issues I would think a tuner could plug in their laptop and turn it off but I am not familiar with tuning Jaguar ECUs.

thanks for the advice, but my issue is not turning OFF the airbag lights, its getting it to COME ON. when you first start up the car it is supposed to flash along with all the other dash lights but it doesn't.

That would imply that indeed, the seatbelt circuit has been disabled, maybe by removing the module?

I would say you are in for some diagnostics with the factory level software.

ok thanks guys. when you say factory level diagnostics, do you mean dealer only analysis? closest is about 1.5 hours away. thanks! Nick

Yes you will need to connect the car up to the dealer-level diagnostic system, it's called SDD, that's the only way to read codes related to the airbags.

The light not coming on suggests to me that there have been some issues with getting the airbag system working, so someone has opened up the dash and disconnected the led or bulb so it doesn't light up...

Is there an airbag light on the passenger side of the dash? (I know the earlier Jags also had one)

You really need to get the car connected to an SDD and trace it back from there...

ok thanks for the great advice. there is not an additional air bag light on the passenger side that I am aware of. as far as SDD, is the jag dealer the best/only option? thanks! Nick

Jaguar (or Land Rover) dealership will have this, possibly an independant specialist workshop who does Jaguars or Land Rovers, there are some forum members who also have functioning SDD systems (like me, but i'm not exactly local to you).

An Autoenginuity diagnostic system with the Jaguar / Land Rover package might also be able to do it, it could be that an independant workshop might have this as an alternative to SDD.

Good luck.

I agree with the above. The one and only time I had a car that the air bag light would NOT come on was because they could not repair it properly and they removed the bulb.

You could be in for a large repair bill troubleshooting the air bag system.
If it is removed I hope you can go back to the seller for repairs.

But first lets see what you find out.

From what he said, since he purchased it as a salvage after a wreck, I'm guessing if there was a relatively easy way to get it all working correctly the seller would have done it while they were repairing the car. I would be pretty nervous right about now about this being a complete nightmare to troubleshoot/repair. Part of the risk of buying a salvaged vehicle I guess.

unfortunate news indeed, i dont think there is going to be any recourse with the seller at this point.

when you say large bill....im not sure what range you are speaking but thats scary.

before i panic i agree with what you said, lets see what diagnostics return.... I will report back the findings as we get them.

thanks again all. -Nick

would the seat belt circuit removed lead to no dash light? or perhaps if as suggested the light was removed altogether form the dash, would the seat belt circuit removal lead to the air bag light being on at all times?

I found this chart, so were thinking the problem lies with one of these units?...like the restrains control module or possibly the seat belt pretensioner? (i chose those sense we've got the strange seat belt dinging....)

Its all a guess without analysis. I would GUESS that if it was something easy the hacks who put the car together would have fixed it, but you never know, I suppose.
