Default Radio on with engine off...possible ?

My kids were playing up in a restaurant the other night, so my wife took them to the car (2010 xf) while I paid the bill. When I was done I got in the driver seat and the kids were listening to music via the iPhone.

Is there a way to have the radio on with the motor off ?

As far as I know you can. I think you can turn it on at any time if you press the radio on button. Otherwise, you can always tap the start button (motor off) with your foot off the brake. Should work like any other car.

Both the above should work. Just be mindful that the battery time on these cars should you do this is shockingly short.

Extraordinarily, after all the years when the radio in a Jaguar would only operate with the key in Position II, the answer for the XF is YES

A perfect way to get electrical issues with cars as sensitive to battery condition and charge.

After only a few minutes of radio operation while the engine is NOT running, you should get a "low battery" warning, followed by an other warning that if you do not start your engine, the display and radio will shut off automatically in something like 3 minutes.

I measured the current draw on my XJL with the accessories ON and a CD playing and it was something like 26 amps. That is a HUGE draw on the battery.

There are two ways to listen to the stereo with the engine off. The first, which several posters have listed, is to press the ignition button with your foot OFF the brake. This does not start the engine but turns on EVERYTHING else, including air conditioning and even headlights if set to Auto and not in bright light. Because of the rather immense electrical draw in this "ignition on" mode you only get a very few minutes (3 or less) before you are warned to start the engine or everything shuts down.

The second much better way (also listed by some) is to press the radio button in the console which turns on only the stereo and draws much less power. Even so, it will not be too long (10-20 min.) before you will get the warning followed by shutdown.
