Default slightly violent shake at idle

when im stopped at a red light, i often feel a slightly stronger than normal shake which feels like its coming from the center of the car / under my seat. Its not a continuous shake, and its not all the time, its like a "reminder" shake that comes every once in a while. This never happened in any of my Jags, and at first i chalked it up to being "race car" ......but now that the honeymoon phase is over, im beginning to think this isnt normal.

could it be a motor mount issue?

slightly unrelated - sometimes the car sounds like its going to choke (at idle), but it doesnt. it just gurgles. RPM needle doesnt move.

I'd watch the fuel trims before, during and after it occurs few times.

Also watch the closed loop / open loop status.

It may be trying to test/wake up n O2 sensor or compensate for a/c (try with it on & again off to see if it changes). Or some other feature.

If it's regular (every 5 secs or whatever) then it's unlikely to be such as an air leak, but the trims can help decide.

I appreciate the help, but you're going to need to explain it a little better for me, I am not mechanical at all.

My first test would be the Throttle position sensor, classic symptoms of a faulty one.

Sounds like finding a competent tech is next.

Did you find out what was wrong? I am having the same issue at times. Thanks

I did not. I was told it might be an engine mount going bad. but did not get confirmation

Not sure if we're talking about the same thing here but it sounds very similar to what I was previoudly experiencing. When I was stopped at a light the car idle felt like it was missing every now and then but never stalled. I noticed that that now that my fuel pump and battery have been changed it doesn't seem to do it anymore. Not sure if it's coincidental but it was something I noticed after getting my car back from having the battery and fuel pump that failed changed. I have an 11 XFR.

actually thats VERY similar to what I am experiencing. feels like its about to choke but it doesnt. nothing else on the car is acting weird, so i guess the battery is still good. fuel pump is a concern. I will need to find time to visit a mechanic

The fuel pump is about 500 plus 1.5hrs labor. It's tough to diagnose as there are no codes thrown until the pump fails. I'm not saying you have the same issue but the symptons sound similar. I also changed the engine oil. Car is running great now. I would definitly talk to your mechanic before doing anything.

the fuel pump went out on my BMW right before i returned it, no warning signs, no indication of failure....i was on the highway and BOOM, it just died...ON THE HIGHWAY

ill expect the same to happen if it happens again. but i really think it could be a motor mount issue

Yes I was fortunate I guess it happened on a city street. I was really surprised with all the drama and the yahoo's telling me to fix my" &*)*)_" car because I was blocking the street. lolllll

You may want to read my previous post. I linked an article with instructions on how to put the car in neutral so it can be towed. Would have been handy to know prior.

kind of off topic: but when I got my BMW 3 years ago, literally the first hour of ownership, it was a BRAND NEW car, 30 miles on the odometer, the transmission completely busted in the city street. worst part is that no one knew how to put the car in neutral. 3 tow truck drivers came, posted questions on the forum, no one was able to put it in neutral and none of the drivers had skates to slide me on the flat bed. it was a disaster
